Evangeline Lilly wields a bow in a new image from The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has revealed new look at Evangeline Lilly’s woodland Elf Tauriel, via EW.com .

The new still shows her poised and ready for action, taking aim with a bow and arrow, a weapon that’s re-emerged as something of a cinematic staple of late.

Of her character, Lilly tells EW that, “She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill.” We caught up with Lilly a while back, and she told us about playing a grittier type of Elf .

The character is 600 years old (pretty young in Elf years), and is an entirely new creation, looking to add some gender balance to Tolkien’s male-centric Middle-earth adventure.
