Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz will already be familiar to cinema fans – he appeared, alongside his moustache and Elijah Wood in Everything Is Illuminated. Now he’s starring in his own film, and to celebrate, the ICA are holding a night dedicated to the Gypsy Punk hero on 25 January.
They’ll launch his film – a documentary entitled The Pied Piper of Hützovina, following Hütz’s attempts to meet the man who inspired him - composer, singer and instrumentalist Sasha Kolpakov – but that’s not all.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with director Pavla Fleisher and Hütz himself, before Eugene takes to the stage to perform a special gig with Kolpakov and his band, The Kolpakov Trio (which sort of ruins the end of the film for us, but what do we know?).
The evening will be rounded off in style with a Gypsy Punk inspired clubnight featuring Hütz, Nick Luscombe (Roots & Shoots), Nova (CostaUrbana) & DJ Scratchy.
Tickets and further details are available from the ICA website . Grab your seven string guitar, and we’ll see you there.
