Elizabeth Olsen talks Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed her casting as Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron , before going on to reveal that she’s been busy reading up on the character.

“So far I’m just doing a lot of reading right now on Scarlet Witch and it’s really exciting,” says Olsen. “The imagination… like running around in a play yard is what it feels like right now.

“And that sounds like so much fun, but you still want to approach it with the same kind of like ‘No, this is where she’s from,’ and it’s real. And that’s what’s fun about it.

“Let them put on the costume or do the special whatever-they-need-to-do to make it look special, but I’ll just do my part. I’m really excited about Scarlet Witch.”

And just in case there were any sceptics among the assembled press pack, Olsen went on to show off a nugget of her newly-gained knowledge…

“The most recent thing I learned – I don’t even know if it has anything [ to do with the film ]… she’s a ‘nexus,’ like she’s the only human being from this universe who can communicate with paranormal things and the past and the future and other universes.”

Whether or not she’s able to do that in the film remains to be seen (there is the knotty issue of the rights to the character’s traditional backstory being owned by Fox), but it certainly sounds as though Olsen is throwing herself into the spirit of things.

Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron will open in the UK on 1 May 2015.
