Edge 283: How Guerrilla is taking PS4 to the next level with Horizon Zero Dawn

A menacing robotic dinosaur stalks the cover of issue 283 of Edge, heralding an exclusive lead feature in which we go hands-on with Guerrilla Games' incredible action RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn. In it, we head to Amsterdam to visit the studio and meet the team challenging everything Guerrilla has learned over the past nine years of focusing on Killzone. Issue 283 of Edge is available now in print, on iPad, Google Play and Zinio.

Change is something to be celebrated, of course, but not everyone is so willing to embrace the new. In our Critical Mass feature, we investigate the game industry’s response to the ever-increasing pressure from vociferous, Twitter-weaponised consumers.

We also speak to Razer co-founder Min-Liang Tan about his life as the Tony Stark of peripheral designers, and present an edited extract from Simon Parkin’s new book Death By Video Game.

This month’s The Making Of… recounts the inspiring story behind the creation of Upper One’s heartfelt, community driven adventure Never Alone, while in Time Extend we consider Ninja Theory’s take on a literary classic, Enslaved: Odyssey To The West. Studio Profile, meanwhile, sees us head to Portsmouth to visit vehicular-combat specialists Freejam Games.

In Knowledge we report on the rise of Japanese indies at BitSummit, speak to the founders of Tale Of Tales in the wake of their decision to close the studio after 12 years, and pay tribute to Satoru Iwata. We also announce the winners of this year’s Get Into Games Challenge and preview Dare ProtoPlay.

Columnists Steven Poole, Ian Bogost, Nathan Brown and James Leach are all on hand to offer their take on the industry, while comedian Ed Byrne chats to us about Resident Evil and suspect free-to-play tactics in My Favourite Game.

In Hype we kick the tyres of No Man’s Sky, Hitman, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, For Honor, Forza Motorsport 6, Wattam, Below and more.

And in Play we assess Her Story, The Magic Circle, The Swindle, Rise Of Incarnates, Yatagarasu: Attack On Cataclysm, Fallout Shelter and Tembo The Badass Elephant.
