Davy (Brian Geraghty, the nervous soldier from Hurt Locker) is an aspiring writer on a half-arsed ‘book tour’ through south-west America with his more sexually confident brother.
One evening, Davy is seduced into phone sex in his motel by mystery caller ‘Nicole’ – who before long becomes “the nearest to a real girlfriend I’ve ever had”.
Based on a men’s mag article, Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s debut feature is an honest, funny-sad portrayal of emotional dysfunction.
The twist ending doesn’t convince, but Geraghty’s performance – touching, uncomfortable – certainly does.
