EA closes Crysis 2 beta for PS3 due to lag

EA announced that it is closing the PS3 beta for Crysis 2 in order to address multiple issues that players have had with the game. Many, but not all players experienced significant lag issues while playing. EA promised on the official Crysis forums that all issues will be addressed and that a workable version of the beta will be available next week.

The company’s full statement on the official Crysis 2 site reads: "Though many gamers have had a great experience playing the demo, we are aware that others have been experiencing server connection delays. We've identified the root cause and have decided to close the PS3 demo in the next 24 hours to ensure all issues are resolved when the game launches next week. Our priority is to ensure that the final product is flawless at launch."

Developer CryTek promises that the final product will not differ greatly from the 360 version.

@jmcgrotty Ordinarily i'd agree. Betas are the reason some MP launches have been... poor (BlOps, Homefront), and i have advocated for them since the COD4 beta, but with the game this close to launch its likely Crysis 2 will follow the trend of a patch in the first week of release. Also there is a difference between a beta and a demo. Demos are usually indicative of the final product despite what that usual message says before the title screen, with little feedback addressed. Betas are for (the most part) stress testing and fixing issues that arise when a large number of players jump on servers and can find bugs that a small group of testers can't. That being said, i hope Crytek manages to prove me wrong as i had a lot of fun on the X360 demo earlier this year (when i was host, anyway). TL;DR: Demo =/= Beta

For those complaining, this was a damn beta! Quit getting bent out of shape for problems until the final game is shipped.

The lag issues were awful, it took FOREVER to find a match, however that was the only problem I had with the demo other than a few hiccups now and then. This gives me some faith that the final product will run smoother.

I was really excited about this. However, the demo went over like a lead balloon. Fail! Preorder cancelled!

F*ck you Crytek you talk shenanigans about killzone and what? you made A TERRIBLE PORT, nobody that owns a ps3 should buy crysis 2! I was hyped about this game I though this was going to be Black Ops killer but its just a buggy broken port!

So it wasn't just me. The PS3 version ran like ass and didn't work at all half the time. However, when it did work, I did like it and was hoping to get to keep playing it before diving back into the 360 version this Tuesday. Even if the PS3 version was a flop, it was nice to get to find the perfect console to play it on. The PC had framerate drops and as usual, I wasn't a big fan of using a keyboard (mouse is fine, but keys aren't laid out as nice as buttons are and there are so many useless keys to have to move around). The PS3's control sticks were too loose and its beta didn't get as much attention as the other two. The 360 version was perfect. Other than one time when I spawned with the enemy at the beginning of a round (fastest death ever), everything ran perfectly. As for the game itself, I love it, I'm super excited for it, and I'll be in for one long weekend waiting for it. At least I have Crysis Warhead to play while I wait.

the demo wasnt that fun anyway and i had zero lag on a perfect connection. I find it funny they make the beta exclusive and then when the demo comes out they shut it down because a problem that could have been found in a beta. The fact that crytek continues to lie about how the game looks instead of admiting they made a terrible port. All this coming from a company that was talking crap about killzone and uncharted. Ha they arent seeing any of my money i just cancled my preorder and wont be buying anything crytek or cry engine 3.

I've been playing the 360 demo for a month and it's an awesome game. I love the Nano Suit and the different way the game plays because of it (vs. other FPS's). The graphics are amazing and the level design is stellar. I would like a LOT more animations though for the players (stairs, assassinations, direction changes) but the gameplay is awesome. The haters will hate, but that's what they do... as a gamer- I'm having a blast on it. Sucks to be a PS3 gamer though (Lag Kil ll ls)

Crysis on consoles makes me angry. They claim the PC version hasn't been dumbed down because of obsolete console tech but I'm afraid that may be the case. As for the dude that says this game looks "kinda boring and lame"? I assume you aren't a fan of SCI-FI or you never had a good enough rig to run the original full blast because it was one of the best FPS I've ever played and I've been playing FPS since Wolfenstein 3D. As far a PS3 goes anything on PSN is a joke compared to the ease of use and reliability of XBL and PC-Based online servers.

Yay! We have shitty netcode! Let's not fix it, let's just shut it down! God, Crytek suck.
  • Shagnasty - March 18, 2011 11:08 p.m.

No wonder it's not working. It'll be the same as the 360 version? That's like putting really shitty gas in a racecar. Of course it will chug and sputter.

    >Developer CryTek promises that the final product will not differ greatly from the 360 version. >Developer CryTek promises that the final product will not differ greatly from the vastly superior 360 version. Fix'd

Oh, wait, it's permanently gone? The fuck? Dammit, Crytek...
  • EnragedTortoise1 - March 18, 2011 10:43 p.m.

so that's why I can't connect. ooooookay then.
  • Revolution472 - March 18, 2011 10:33 p.m.
