Dual Shock 3 dissected - First photos

New shots show the controller laid bare

Officially announced atthis year'sTokyo Game show and due to hit the west next spring, Sony's long hoped-for rumble-enabled Sixaxis controller for the PlayStation 3 is now available in Japan. We've foundsome pictures on aJapanese Web site which show off both an exposed view of the controller's insides as well as the rumble effect of the motors. Click through for those latter ones.

As expected it's a similar twin-motor set-up to the previous Dual Shock 2, Sony having turned down Immersion's newer, more streamlined technology. Also on show is the ceramic white edition of the controller, which you can find on the third page. It's a sleek and sexy little thing indeed, but we can't help thinking that the black buttons kind of kill the effect.

The controllers are currently available from Playasia.com, but sadly the site isn't exporting to Europe. Fear of a similar legal whupping from SCEE to the one which saw Lik-Sang.com shut down for exporting PSPs to the region? We'd bet on it.

Long-time GR+ writer Dave has been gaming with immense dedication ever since he failed dismally at some '80s arcade racer on a childhood day at the seaside (due to being too small to reach the controls without help). These days he's an enigmatic blend of beard-stroking narrative discussion and hard-hitting Psycho Crushers.
