Ultimate Band

Disney Interactive Studios has teamed up with pop-punk band Plain White T's for content, videos and promotional efforts for its upcoming music video game Ultimate Band. Developed by Fall Line Studio in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ultimate Band takes gamers of all ages on a journey to achieve rock stardom starting as garage-band beginners and working toward the ultimate rock notoriety. With the Plain White T's featured in Ultimate Band, fans can play their favorite band's music in an accessible game with great value.

Ripten: Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with a few dudes from Fall Line Studio, developers of the just-released Ultimate Band for the Wii and DS. Tim Huntsman (senior producer), Mark McArthur (development director), and Mike Thompson (art director) fielded questions posed by us media types in a James Lipton-style interview presented by Access Communications. The good questions, obviously, were submitted by me, but I want to apologize for the woman at the end who was rude and unprofessionally douche-like. Yes, it is possible to be professionally douche-like, so shut up. There is also an occasional beepy-boop noise that I'm assuming is people joining the call, but that was totally not my computer making the noise so whatev. And after re-reading all of the stuff that I just wrote, I realize that deep down inside I am apparently a valley-girl.

Disney's Ultimate Band is an upcoming music rhythm game for Wii and DS. The game has a tracklist of 30 songs total (all are cover versions) and VGB uncovered the 16 of them that have been revealed so far. These include Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson, Fell in Love with a Girl by The White Stripes, Make It by Aerosmith and everyone's favorite The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls.

By now you've probably heard about Disney's new entry into the music/rhythm category, Ultimate Band, which comes out in the fall. You probably know the basics: It's a music game for Wii and DS that uses their motion sensing / touch screen to play the instruments, so it doesn't come with any extra peripherals. It's being developed by Disney Interactive's Fall Line Studio in Utah, which DIS established in 2006 to make Wii and DS games. Though the development house has contributed to some other projects, this is the first game that's being made entirely at Fall Line. But The Cut Scene learned a lot more about the game from an interview with Senior Game Designer Derek Dutelly.

DailyGame.net reports that yet another new band game is on the way, but with no peripherals, it doesn't sound like it will compete with Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Instead, it'll use the Wii Remote and DS stylus to play instruments.
