Tomb Raider Legend

Also known as: Tomb Raider: Legend [US]

Touchy-feely Lara Croft action - not actually as fun as it sounds...

This DS version of Tomb Raider: Legend is a strange blend of the other versions of the game, from GBA to PS2. It takes the facile side-scrolling gameplay of the GBA version, allows for simple 3D movement on top of that and then shoehorns in all the puzzles from the grown-up GameCube version with the same ferocity that a cat shoves its face into a mousehole. What else is different? It isn't very good.

While on GBA you can steam-roll through lots of sections, here the 3D plains and the dark-o-visuals mean that you have a hell of a time trying to line-up each of those jumps - most of the time, it feels like you're trying to slide down your stairs' banisters blindfolded, while wearing one of those hilariously padded It's A Knockout sumo costumes. That's at the best of times, of course - when you can actually see where you're going.

Above: The touch-screen is usually taken up with your inventory - a real missed opportunity
