Today Disney Interactive announced it has released a Collector's Edition of its surprise hit Spectrobes. Released earlier this year, Spectrobes is an action RPG with similarities to Pokemon that was the best-selling third-party DS game in March 2007.

Issue 2 of HGZine, the free magazine for Sony PSP and Nintendo DS, includes an exclusive column by Steve Lycet from Sumo Digital (makers of TOCA, OutRun 2006, and Virtua Tennis) on how a game is converted to the PSP. Disney's Spectrobes game for DS will bring together the worlds of Pokemon-style collect-'em-all gameplay and Panini sticker-esque trade-'em-all fervor in a heady mix of addiction when it launches on March 16th. Each game pack will include four lenticular cards, which will unlock special bits and pieces in the game, and more will be available after the game's release so Spectrobes fans can play swapsies. Playing as a boy action star called Taiga, Fossil League's backstory sees you travelling back in time to collect, tame and battle dinosaur fossils in what's described as a Pokemon-style. To be honest, this approach sounds remarkably similar to Buena Vista's Spectrobes ¿ another game where you have to collect fossils, and train and fight with the resulting creatures.
