New DS Lite bundle released to capitalise on Father's Day gifting period.

Nintendo has launched a new DS Lite bundle with a Professor Layton theme.

The pack includes a black DS Lite and a copy of the Professor Layton And The Curious Village, all in a special box based on the artwork of the game.

The bundle is being targeted by several retailers as a Father's Day gift and has been released to capitalise on this annual gifting period.

Developer Level-5 is busy localising the second Professor Layton DS adventure for North America and Europe, and boss Akihiro Hino hopes to release within six months.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box rejoins the titular professor and young apprentice Luke as they journey to see Layton's mentor about a mysterious box.

Japan has been playing this second instalment since November 2007, and the game has proven to be every bit as special as the Curious Village.

IGN writes: "The third and final entry in the Professor Layton DS trilogy, Professor Layton and the Final Time Journey, hit Japan Thursday morning. You wouldn't expect Level-5 to let the game drop without some buzz, and sure enough, the developer/publisher generated quite a bit of buzz through a commemoration press event on Wednesday night in Tokyo.

The big news to emerge from the event concerned a non-gaming offshoot of the franchise. Professor Layton The First Movie, the animated film that was announced just prior to the Tokyo Game Show, is scheduled for a New Years 2010 release in Japan, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino revealed. The Japanese version of the film will feature the same voice cast as the game, with Yo Oizumi as Layton and Maki Horikita as Ruke."

Nintendo confirmed today - among other things - that its upcoming DS game Professor Layton and the Curious Village will feature the downloadable puzzle service already available for Japanese gamers.

Following its February release in the US, for every week for the first six months, a new puzzle will be available via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. These puzzles will be on top of the 130 already included in the game.

Andrew Macarthy of Nintendic reports North American audiences are about to receive Level-5's "Professor Layton and the Curious Village". Set in the village of St. Mystere, players step into the inquisitive boots of Layton as he attempts to track down an elusive treasure hidden somewhere in the village. Many puzzles are new to the North American version of the game, and new puzzles will be available to download via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Nintendo's official website notes the release date is February 18, while the latest press release differs with a February 10 launch date.
