Ripten will be publishing a new Orcs & Elves developer diary by id Software each week up until the US release of the game on November 13, 2007. The first edition includes five brand new screen shots. Check it all out after the jump.

Sept 27, 2007 Not unlike a plucky RPG hero hacking his way through bigger and badder bosses, 2006 mobile phone smash Orcs & Elves is leveled up and raring to take down the big and bad (actually cute and portable) DS. The first screens have arrived, and they attest to improved graphics on the Nintendo portable, as well as alleviate any anxiety as to whether gold, a dragon, and a glowing blue sword will be featured in the game. One big name GamerSquad didn't expect to see praising Nintendo was id Software co-founder John Carmack. Carmack has been critical of the Kyoto giant on more than one occasion in the past, but not for much longer it would seem. After announcing a Nintendo DS version of his mobile phone game Orcs & Elves back at E3 in July, Carmack yesterday told a packed QuakeCon audience how he was really happy for Nintendo, and suggested that he'd quite like to see Orcs & Elves on the Wii, which he described as a spark of newness.


For the LARPer on the go, EA and id Software have foretold the coming of Orcs & Elves II, the sequel to one of last year's best received mobile games. Even more relevant, they've announced the original is headed to the Nintendo DS. While the mobile version is getting the sequel treatment, the better-than-perfectly-suited DS is getting an expanded, exclusive version of the original. Last year, Orcs & Elves won several "Mobile Game of the Year" awards for its well executed combination of epic
