Ubisoft: 'Casual audience wants something better' (Zenses Ocean)

Ubisoft's Games For Everyone executive producer Pauline Jacquey has said that its casual players are becoming more demanding in the games they play.

"When you're reaching out to somebody who plays one or two games a year, it's very easy. You don't need to follow the rules of previous markets," she told Casual Gaming.biz.

Nintendo trying to reach alternative retailers (Zenses Ocean)

Demonstrating their upcoming Zenses titles at a recent media summit, The Game Factory's Damien Sarrazin noted that Nintendo is trying to reach out to alternative retailers.

"They've cornered the enthusiast retailers, the gaming retailers - the EBs of the world, the Best Buys. I think they've maximized the potential there," he told GamesIndustry.biz

"There is nothing more you can do in the usual places where you would expect to find videogame hardware and software. So, the only way they can expand their presence is to access alternative retailers - and in order to do that, they need to come up with the right offering."

Sarrazin thinks his company has found the right offering with Zenses - DS puzzle games designed specifically for a female audience.

European videogames publisher JoWooD has today revealed the remaining games scheduled to arrive in PAL territories this quarter. The line-up consists of three highly-anticipated Nintendo DS titles, including an adaptation of the Neighbours from Hell franchise previously having appeared on Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, and the interesting Lifesigns: Hospital Affairs.

Zoo Tycoon 2 Coming to DS (Zoo Tycoon 2 DS)

Following the massive success of Zoo Tycoon on the Nintendo DS, especially in the UK where it still charts at the moment, THQ has kicked into gear and announced a sequel. The game is based on the one published by Microsoft Game Studios and is scheduled for an early 2008 release. Rather than being from Blue Fang this time (which many may see as a positive considering the first DS game was an abomination), Altron is behind this new version. The game includes improved gameplay and new features for fans of the life simulation genre, as well as animal-lovers who have long dreamed of running their own zoo. For reference, the NPD Group also states that the original game has now sold more than half a million units in the US alone!

New child's video game IP from EA - Zubo (Zubo)

Videogamer reports that "The EA Casual Entertainment Label" has today announced the development of Zubo, a new wholly-owned, original intellectual property, created for 7-11 year old boys and girls.

Zubo is a music-based rhythm-action game featuring a unique set of characters and is scheduled to ship worldwide later this year exclusively for Nintendo DS.

"Zubo represents the culmination of a dedicated incubation project, the first of its kind at EA, which specifically sought to develop a new videogame property for boys and girls under 12," said Harvey Elliott, Head of the EA Bright Light studio in Guildford, UK. "The team here has designed a rich, immersive and, above all, enjoyable experience - one that will live in the schoolyard, at home or on the move."
