We got to thinking about this videogames stuff - we do that sometimes - and in the process, we stumbled upon a great idea for a new file-download website. But the thing is, we need your help.
It's called FileRadar (located conveniently at FileRadar.net, or at the handy, "Downloads" tab we popped up at the top every GamesRadar.com page) and what makes it different is the fact that it's entirely driven by you and not pompous know-it-all journalists like, well, us. Users submit files and, if you
Change is good, they tell us. Without progress, we stagnate.
But is that true of videogames? Think about it. Beyond the high-res textures, fancy physics and surround sound, is the stuff you're playing today really any better than what you experienced as a kid? We don't think so. Maybe we're old or maybe we're just stubborn, but we can't help longing for the types of games that got us into this hobby in the first place.
What follows are the genres we miss the most, the ones that deserve to

Next-gen consoles have been banned from UK prisons due to concerns that they could be used to coordinate terror attacks.
Back in March, UK home secretary John Reid was quoted saying, "Advice was issued to all prisons in December 2005 that the Sony PlayStation 3 was barred from the prison estate because of the equipment's ability to send and receive radio signals."
The banning of game consoles in UK prisons has now seemingly been extended to Microsoft and Nintendo systems. UK

How will Guitar Hero be played on DS? That's the big question for Vicarious Visions, the developer taking care of the handheld conversion. Contrary to expectations, however, the game won't use the stylus.
Unlike in Ubisoft's guitar simulator Jam Sessions, which has players using the stylus to strum on-screen strings, Guitar Hero DS won't use the touch screen as a primary input at all, revealed design manager, Adrian Earle.
This leads to further speculation that the game may be

Yeah, we know this isn't technically a trailer, but kids, anything entitled "Goresplosion" is probably worthy of your attention.

Race Driver: Create & Race looks and plays really well, but what are particularly interesting are its many customisation options, including a touch-screen course editor.
We expected a simple tool to give you about as much artistic freedom as Rolf Harris in a straight jacket, but it's actually incredibly flexible. You put together a course first, which can have hills, dips, and cross-over sections using either template course pieces or drawing freely on the touch screen.
You then

Sadly for gamers with Xbox 360 and PS3 shooter The Club on their Christmas lists, the game has slipped to early 2008, Sega confirmed today. We must admit, when we last saw the game in action it didn't look very near to completion (although that was a few months ago). Still, 2007 is already looking like having the most expensive tail-end of any year ever with so many great games coming out, so this will at least give us a chance to fill our pockets again before The Club opens
Have you already voted for this year's Golden Joystick awards? Course you have, after all, everyone wants their favourite game to be recognised by the rest of the gaming massive. If not, why not? We suggest you go to the voting form now and have your say.
The Golden Joystick awards - this year hosted by Peep Show's David Mitchell - are a bash not to be missed and we're giving one lucky GamesRadar reader the chance to nab two tickets to the prestigous event.

A Sony Pictures exec has been quoted as saying that he'd love Microsoft to join the Blu-ray revolution.
"We would love to have Toshiba and Microsoft on board," Don Eklund, almost in charge of advanced technologies, said in an interview. "Toshiba can't keep dropping prices much more. It maybe a strategy for fighting a format war, but for us it has to be profitable."
Eklund also made some comments about potential for the Blu-ray / HD DVD format war to be eclipsed by movie
