Halo Reach may have broken sales records last week, but it seems that Japan’s gaming audience just wasn’t interested. Although Bungie’s latest entry in the Halo series sold a respectable number of copies, it came in fourth on the sales charts, following Pokemon Black & White, Front Mission Evolved, and Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 05, of all things. It’s not surprising that Pokemon Black & White did so well, but Yu-Gi-Oh? C’mon!
We sort of thought the Guinness Book of World Records was a collection of definite, measurable achievements. Like, that's pretty much everything it represents... or not - the latest edition of the Guinness Gamers' Edition contains a list of the top 50 game series, not by total sales or anything factual like that, but as determined by a poll. Famitsu readers voted Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (known as Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in Japan) as their 2010 game of the year. The results were announced via Famitsu's website on Friday. The annual mid-year poll serves as the closest thing to an Oscar-like best picture feature.
