Yup, after several beyond-healthy years of printing money, Nintendo has reported a pretty hefty profit drop. Obviously this news is going to launch Wii naysayers into a tirade of "LOL! BABYFADGIMMICK IS OVER!", but while the number sadness looks fairly significant (and at a 33.7% income drop, it sort of is), it's maybe not the financial tombstone the HD doom -mongers might like to think it is.
That said though, it does raise some interesting questions regarding Nintendo's white waggle box. Click on, and I'll break down all the details and what they might mean.
Admittedly this story is only loosely video game related, but I wasn't about to pass on the chance of writing a headline that contained the words 'kangaroo crash nightmare'.
Not content with three-legged races, hockey games or tossin' the ole ball around, one U.S. father and son team is bonding over the construction of one of the world's most elaborate, kid-sized Metroid-themed cosplay costumes to date...
With Halloween just over a week away, why not take a minute bask in the glow of the most awesome Pokemon-themed jack-o'-lantern collection the internet has ever known. Deviantartist joh-wee works fiery magic with her pumpkin (and watermelon!) carving skills, as evidenced by her eight page jack-o'lantern gallery. More inside...
Hope you didn't succumb to the black Wii a few months ago, cuz Nintendo just announced a bright red, Mario-themed pair of bundles for both Wii and DSi XL. Both arrive on November 7, strategically placed between Super Mario Bros' 25-year anniversary and the post Thanksgiving shopping blitz.
5th Cell, the developer of Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts, has created a countdown clock which will tick away until the reveal of its new XBLA game, October 29 at 1 a.m. EDT and 1 a.m. PDT on SPIKE TV.
We don't love hype-building countdown clocks, but we are excited to see 5th Cell's new offering. Scribblenauts didn't work perfectly, but Super Scribblenauts fixed many of its problems, and the creativity displayed by both of the games put the dev on our list of creative forces to watch...
Super Mario Bros, all things considered, is kind of a big deal. You know, in the same way that Everest is kind of a big rock, or that Star Wars is kind of not as good as it used to be.
But considering it's the most important game from one of the most important companies in video game history, we know remarkably little about how it came to be. Admittedly, most of us assume it was just gifted to the world, fully-formed and perfect, by the very gods themselves, but that's not true. And now, in a chat with Famitsu, Shigeru Miyamoto has finally spilled some very interesting and very surprising beans pertaining to how Mario became what he is. And what he very easily could have been. And they're intriguing and terrifying in equal measure.
Started in the US a couple years back, Club Nintendo copies the Japanese originator and allows fans to register their Nintendo published games in exchange for Coins, the site’s virtual points system. Then those Coins can be used to get free Nintendo collectibles like playing cards, posters and even a couple of exclusive games. Today Nintendo added to that list a set of pins to commemorate Super Mario Bros turning 25. They all looked pretty cool, until we scanned the price and got a major case of sticker shock...
Yesterday's announcement of the so-exciting-half-of-its-target-audience-are-unfortunately-now-dead 3DS crossover Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney was seriously serious business. But now the full, three minute trailer has arrived. Anyone left still alive after this is going to be happy to a degree hitherto unpioneered by humankind.
Capcom, seriously, calm down. You're so aggressive. Was fighting Marvel not enough for you? Fighting the cast of Tekken not a big enough challenge? You're seriously going to throw down against poor old Professor Layton in a Layton vs. Phoenix Wright crossover for the 3DS?
You are?
Awesome...
