Knights in the Nightmare

Tactical RPG fans may want to hold off pawning their PSP for a little while yet, as Atlus has announced plans to bring a brand new game to Sony's handheld next June, called Gungnir. Have a look at the trailer for what could very well be the last UMD title to hit North American shores...

VG247 writes: Knights in the Nightmare is leaving Japan, and heading west on October 19. To get you ready, Atlus released a trailer for it which you can find below. Originally released for DS in 2008, the RPG-shooter mix was re-released on PSP in Japan back in April. This version contains all-new controls, an opening anime movie and a catalog of in-game dialogue for players to browse through. Heres the backstory: Somewhere between heaven and the underworld in the center of a quiet lake stood an ancient castle known as Aventheim. One night, without warning, denizens of the netherworld emerged and slaughtered the kingdom; nary a soul was left alive. Within an abandoned, long-forgotten church deep in the woods, a wisp is set free. Bereft of memory, it is drawn toward the monster-infested castle and re-awakens the souls of the vanquished knights, leading them back towards the fallen stronghold to confront the very forces of evil that took their lives.

Gamer Limit writes: Atlus has developed a wonderful rapport with the gaming community. The spoils system (packaging extras into games), and the large amount of community interaction have created quite the bond between the publisher and the general public. I'd even make the contention that Atlus is the modern-day Working Designs. Their latest effort, Knights in the Nightmare, is shaping up to look as unique as advertised, and luckily, this series of videos will help you understand how to play the game if you're completely new to the genre.

With a few more weeks left before the official release of Knights in the Nightmare, Atlus has put a demo of the game on the Wii's Nintendo Channel.

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. has today revealed something more about Tome of Lost Souls, the pre-order bonus art book for the upcoming Knights in the Nightmare game version for Nintendo DS. Knights in the Nightmare is an astonishing mix of genres and gameplay styles, featuring the amazing works of important designers and illustrators such as Shinichi Ito, Satoko Kiyuduki, Yoshinori Iwanaga, and Sunaho Tobe. Atlus has revealed more information about the pre-order bonus for their upcoming Nintendo DS game, Knights in the Nightmare, as well as new screenshots of the game in action.
