Playing the bad guy is looking sweeter by the day as EA's shooter comes under scrutiny

EA's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent continues to impress and build on its early promise and we have the latest screens of the game in action. We're particularly impressed with just how clean it looks in the in-game screens and the mix 'n' match of weapons in each hand also has our trigger-finger itching to squeeze.

As a game set in the Bond universe, it's somewhat surprising that it isn't a gadget-fest of typically Bond-esque cutting edge tools but the full-on shoot-'em-up nature of the game sits very well with us. However, you do have one special tool at your disposal - your, ahem, . As you progress through the game, abilities attributed to it increase and include features such as a shield, x-ray vision and the very cool bullet magnetising effect which mars the aim of your enemies' bullets.

The enemy AI appears to be impressive too, with enemies making intelligent use of cover, plus they'll try to outmanoeuvre you, using flanking tactics and the like. They also act in a way that's 'fair' in that if you poke your head out and let off a round, they'll focus on your revealed position. Scoot around behind them quietly and you'll often find them still concentrating on your original position: like we said, fair AI that doesn't have some kind of sixth sense where they're programmed to always know your whereabouts.

As you'll note from the above example, the game can be played in a cautious, stealthy manner but the main emphasis appears to be on all-out shooting action in a game engine that provides a wealth of hardware to do the damage. We're continuing to in confidence that EA has a quality title in the pipeline with Rogue Agent.

GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is due to be released on PS2, Xbox and Gamecube in the autumn
