Square Enix has recently updated the official website of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon's DS port, Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon: Labyrinth of Time DS+. Along with the site update they announced Japan will see the game on shop shelves October 30, 2008.

Kotaku writes:

Square Enix honcho Yoichi Wada (above, left) is worried. Western game companies are doing really well! Meaning that competition is getting harder. Yet, Wada hopes to capitalise on the Western market, aiming to increase the ratio of overseas sales from its current 50 percent to 80 percent in the next three years. According to the exec:

"We face competition not only from Japanese videogame companies but from game companies worldwide. We also see some new players from outside the videogame industry coming in... Economies of scale and breadth of scope is getting important. It may be a business alliance or it may be us taking a stake in others, but we need to go beyond traditional Square Enix."

That business alliance sounds nice and all. But, how about stop calling everything Final Fantasy? Or make things other than RPGs? Or if you are going to make RPGs, why not make the games people have been asking for for the past decade?

Square Enix, the publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces the release of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales on May 25th exclusively on Nintendo DS.

Chocobo Tales is a magical adventure for all ages that takes place in a fun and enchanting world filled with loveable characters from the Final Fantasy series. Players will challenge over 40 minigames and microgames as they embark on a journey to rescue their lost friends and restore peace to the land. Featuring innovative stylus and Touch Screen functionality, Chocobo Tales looks set to be one of the most enjoyable and impressive Nintendo DS titles of the year.

Chocobo Tales ships to North America (News)

The day has finally come and North American Nintendo DS owners can now play Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. The game has been tagged with the MSRP of USD $29.99, and should now be available in all video game stores.

The game is scheduled for release in Europe on May 31, 2007.

EGM #215: Average scores for Chocobo Tales (News)

In their latest issue (#215) EGM didn't give Square Enix's Nintendo DS title, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, such a warm welcome. The EGM reviewers gave the following scores: 6, 6.5 and 6.5.

The game is scheduled for release in North America on April 3rd, 2007.

The issue also mentioned that Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War are all to be released in 2008. That's unconfirmed yet, as we all know EGM's reputation.
