Pokemon Diamond / Pearl

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Advanced Guide

You've mastered the Pokemon League, but there's still plenty of adventure to be found in Sinnoh

Words: Heidi Kemps, GamesRadar US

REGIGIGAS

Are you ready to take on the big guns? There are still 3 Legendaries you can obtain, but trust us when we say they are tough. All of these behemoths are at Level 70, and they aren't willing to succumb to the confines of a pokeball without a serious fight.

The first one we'll tackle in this guide is Regigigas. For this quest, you'll need to bring along Regirock, Registeel, and Regice. These pokemon can't be found on Sinnoh, so you will either have to trade them from a friend or transfer them via Pal Park.

Head up to Snowpoint City. Your well-meaning but impetuous rival/buddy will be there, and he'll tell you about his plans to go to the Battle Park. You'll be following him over there later on - for now, we're going to be sticking around here.

You may remember a temple in the north part of town that was blocked off earlier. Go back up north and talk to the person guarding the structure. They'll deny you entry at first, but then Gym Leader Candice will pop in and vouch for you. You're now free to go in and out as you wish.

It's not too interesting inside the temple - things are pretty bare, though there are some rocks and ice patches (remember those from the Gym?) scattered about. A few items lying around can be obtained with Rock Smash and Strength, though neither is necessary to get to the bottom floor. It's pretty straightforward: just keep on making your way to the stairs until you reach the bottom floor. There's another sliding ice puzzle in the basement - you'll see Regigigas in the center of the room, and you need to slide around to reach it. It's nowhere near as annoying a puzzle as the Gym, but to save you some aggravation, we're going to show exactly how to get to Regigigas in our clip below.

Examine Regigigas when you've reached it. If you've got Regice, Registeel, and Regirock with you, then it will spring to life and begin a battle.

Regigigas is weighed down by an, uh, "ability" called Slow Start, which halves Speed and Attack for about 4 or 5 turns after combat begins. Use this time to either knock down its HP and afflict status ailments, or buff up your pokemon with abilities and battle items. Regigigas is a strictly Normal-type pokemon, which means that its primary weakness is Fighting attacks. Other attacks will have normal effectiveness (save for ghost skills, which won't work at all), though its high defense will prevent it from taking much damage from physical attacks. It's weaker to special attacks, so use those initially. Once you've got its HP under 25%, switch to physical skills to whittle down its health to a sliver, then start throwing Pokeballs like crazy. As usual, Ultra Balls, Dusk Balls, and Timer Balls are your best bet here.

But no matter how low its health gets, Regigigas will still likely be a tough catch. Put out a Pokemon that is capable of taking Regigigas's beating while you keep trying. Regigigas has powerful physical attacks, as well as Confuse Ray and the Psychic-typed Zen Headbutt to counter Fighting types. Put out a poke capable of enduring a lot of physical abuse, and take a turn to heal if necessary. It'll probably take a good amount of time, but if you keep at it, you'll be able to take this colossus down and make it your own.
