Drew Goddard isn't giving up on the Sinister Six

While it’s exciting that Spider-Man will be teaming up with the Avengers and getting a fresh batch of solo movies, one of the casualties of the character’s new deal with Marvel is that Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six movie has fallen by the wayside. However, according to the writer and director, he’s still hopeful the film - which sees six of Spider-Man's most deadly villains team up to take him down - will get made some way down the line.

"My vision of that movie was a summer annual," says Goddard to i09. "So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think."

While there would certainly be something refreshing about a standalone Spidey movie unshackled by world-building worries, it seems as though Marvel is going to weave him into its larger continuity, with the character expected to make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. Looks like Goddard will just have to keep himself busy with Daredevil, the second season of which is scheduled to land in 2016.
