Download of the Week: Mafia II offers you a half-price deal on Joe's Adventure that you can't refuse

Platform: 360 | Publisher: 2K Games | Developer: 2K Czech | Price: 400MS | Size: 1.17Gb required

All our downloads are piped in with the lightning-quick Virgin Media 50Mb Broadband...

We've never really understood the harsh criticism levelled at Mafia II. Sure, if you're expecting a new GTA then a) you'll be disappointed and b) you're an idiot. But on it's own merits, Mafia II is great fun and captures the wiseguy vibe and era brilliantly. Anyway, moving swiftly on... the whopping, great, big DLC, Joe's Adventure is our choice for Download of the Week. About eight hours worth of fresh action for 400MS points? You know it makes sense.

The chunky DLC follows - yup, you guessed it - Joe's adventures. Specifically, it's set during the bits where Vito Scalleta - Mafia II's lead character - is banged up in prison. You then get to play as the wise-cracking Joe as he goes on the rampage to find out who framed Vito. There are new areas to explore, new story (obviously) and new cars to spin around Empire Bay in.

Want more DLC? Check these out...

The main game was great, but Joe's Adventures and that other DLC were broken. Some of the Joe's missions were really frustrating, and one of them was damn near impossible. You had to drive a really slow pickup truck to 3 places all across the city to drop off stolen guns. On a timer. As soon as you made the first stop, a car full of thugs would show up and fill you with bullet holes. If you just kept driving to the next stop, you were dead in like ten seconds. If you got out to fight them, there was no way to have enough time. After an hour of that crap I uninstalled the game.

I love the main game and I also loved the DLC. I'm hoping for Mafia III in the future, maybe with a clear, concrete picture as to what actually happens to Vito and Joe at the end of Mafia II. That was only thing I didn't like about it.

The reason a lot of people dislike this game is because of all the cut content. It wouldn't be so bad, but they voluntarily removed content, not because they ran out of time. The game originally had 150 chapters, the final version only had 15. That's why the story felt rushed.

Vito wasn't Framed, He Legit sold stolen ration stamps. Joe's trying to find who talked about it.

I'm already a huge Mafia 2 fan, one of my favorites this generation and by far the best "open world" game story. But I was waiting to pick up the 2 DLC packs until they went on sale. I got them both yesterday and it put Mafia 2 from "my top 10" to "my top 5". The DLC is so different in play style that it changes the game completely. It's like having 2 games in one city and I LOVE it. If you can only get one- pick up either because you won't be disappointed. But of course- you'll be so NOT disappointed you'll want to pick up the other as well and now is a great time to do so!! $10 for hours of brand new play??? Hell yeah.

Might check out Serious Sam on steam, had a good time when I played that on the original xbox a couple of months ago

It's not even worth a persons time, I felt really cheated when I got this DLC. Stick to the main game, which is a million times better
