Dodgeball creator to rewrite The Umbrella Academy

Writer and director Rawson Thurber will take over the script writing reigns from Mark Bomback for the comic book movie The Umbrella Academy.

Bomback wrote the first draft of the screenplay, which is based on the 2007 miniseries created by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.

Way picked up a 2008 Eisner Award for his Dark Horse comic, which follows a group of young superheroes who are brought together as children – reuniting later in life following the death of their mentor.

Thurber's recent work includes script duties on Brett Ratner's Tower Heist, as well as writing and directing a film based on Michael Chabon's novel The Mysteries Of Pittsburgh.
