Docter working on an original Pixar pic?

Looks like Up director and Pixar brain trust member Pete Docter's next film might not feature a return to Monstropolis.

For a while now, rumours have been building - despite no official confirmation, and only Docter's vague suggestion that he's pondered the concepts - that Pixar will produce a sequel to the 2001 hit.

But when New York Magazine pinned him down to talk about Up, they also got him to mention the future, at least to the extent that the slippery studio bods ever fees up to upcoming movies.

"That one I just started," says Docter of his next planned film. "We finished Up, I took some time off, spent some time in Europe and Japan doing publicity over there, so I've only been on this for like a couple weeks."

And then he follows up with this admission, when asked whether it's a Monsters sequel: I'm not working on ... I'm working on something else, but I cannot announce what it is."

Given the usual animated schedule for the company, we can likely expect it to arrive in 2014 or 2015, and who knows - maybe he's playing extra coy and has already had secret talks with the likes of John Goodman and Billy Crystal to return, all the while throwing the press off the scent like a supervillain. Or someone else is stepping up to the Monsters plate...

As with all things Pixar, we'll just have to wait and see. Or break in to their facility and nick their big folder marked "Super Secret Stuff We Can't Talk About - No Touchies!"

What do you think his next film will be? Best guess wins bragging rights.
