Above: Besides the controversially brunet hero in action, here's art for a few of Dante's weapons

The original Devil May Cry might have jumped straight into the grown-up demon-slaying, but Ninja Theory's reboot is a more psychological take on the series – and as such, the developer's found time to go into a little bit of backstory to go along with these new screenshots. Apparently the upcoming reboot will be kind of like if Charles Dickens had written occult horror? Which is to say, great.

The new title, say Capcom and Ninja Theory, will touch on the half-angel Dante's revised origin story, a hardscrabble tale of growing up on the streets and bouncing between foster homes and orphanages; all of which happen to have been run by child-torturing demons. Don't worry, doubtless this will all be conveyed via the medium of QTEs and head-exploding. The new title's still due later in the year, and meanwhile Capcom has the Devil May Cry HD Collection incoming next month to tide veterans over while maximizing confusion for series newcomers.

There's an argument on a DMC forum about how GamesRadar says DmC will have QTE because they said so in this article....*sigh*

Dante is a half-demon, not a half-angel. I am still interested what the game will turn out to be. It all comes down to gameplay in my opinion. If the gameplay is solid, I'll accept the story that goes along with it.

The new story line is that he is half angel half demon. Remember that this takes place in an alternate universe from the rest of the DMC games.

If you knew about devil may cry you would know that the reason that it had two skulls on the hilt was that the one that didn't have the horns represented his human side while the one that had the horns represented his demon side....so no it is not needless and tacky...... on topic....I can't believe they are still doing this game....Id rather buy two copies of CoD MW3 on the 360....and I'm a ps3 fanboy

Really like that new Rebellion design. (I never liked the old one, the skull hilt felt needless and tacky.)

The fact that you fully admit you're an irrational console specific fanboy says it all :P And by the way, I played both DmC 1, Dmc 3 and 4. I was aware of what the skulls mean, doesn't make them any less tacky, and there are far better ways to represent his dual nature.

Looks fantastic. I can't wait for more info. I'm a little iffy on the QTEs. I like them in general, but DMC hasn't ever used them, so that should be interesting.
