Disgaea 3 confirmed for PS Vita

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is coming to PlayStation Vita. Speaking to Japanese magazine Dengeki, Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa confirmed that the turn-based strategy RPG will receive the handheld port treatment. The game has a new name, Disgaea 3 Return (or “Returns” depending on the translation), but it's not clear if Return will be a serious re-imagining or straight port to Vita. Niikawa didn't mention any gameplay changes, but he did talk about a handful of added features.

The Vita version of Disgaea 3 will include all DLC that was produced for the original PS3 version, use close-up character art from Disgaea 4, and add four new post–main story scenarios that tell the stories of four supporting characters. Niikawa mentioned that he would like to use the Vita's touch functionality, but didn't say how that would be incorporated.

The game isn't playable yet, but Niikawa expects the final build to run faster than its predecessor and hopes to have a working version of the game at next month's Tokyo Game Show. We don't know when Return will be released, but according to a now-removed Yahoo listing, NIS is planning it as a PS Vita launch title. That means the game could come out as early as the fall of this year, but the the listing may have been removed because the game has been pushed back or the release date was incorrect. If that's the case, we're still in the dark.
