It looks like Diablo III may be coming to consoles. Blizzard Entertainment has recently posted job ads for a console lead designer, lead programmer, quest designer, and senior producer under the project heading ‘Diablo III.’ Although the first Diablo received a PlayStation port in 1998, news that the highly anticipated sequel for the PC-centric franchise may be coming to consoles is still surprising.
Blizzard Entertainment was quick to respond, emphasizing that the recently posted job ads are not an official announcement for a console title. The official post on the Diablo III community page follows:
We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply.
Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.

So a console version of Diablo III or a Diablo-related title isn’t official, but still! Look at all those ultra red exclamation marks next to all the job ads for console positions under Diablo III, which indicate ‘particularly critical positions.’ It’ll be interesting to see if Blizzard’s console team will be able to bring the heart of the point-and-click loot fest to consoles, or if the project will turn out to be vaporware, like StarCraft: Ghost.
