Devil May Cry art contest hints at anniversary collection release

To mark the 10-year anniversary of the Devil May Cry series Capcom has put out a call-to-arms for fan art of any of the characters within the DMC universe. Winners of the competition will have their creations featured in a “new, to be announced Capcom game” as well as a copy of it upon release. Since DmC Devil May Cry was announced during E3 this year we can assume that this contest won’t be for that.

HD remake rumors swirled when a Spanish retailer posted box art for a 10th Anniversary Collection with a release date of November 30th. However, that box art was a piece of custom art GamesRadar created for a feature titled PlayStation 2 HD remakes we’d like to see. The retailer has since pulled the listing, but not after several gaming sites picked up the art to run stories based off it. Could this art contest be the first legitimate hint at an HD remake?

Above: Hey guys? We made that

Capcom’s contest, however, with a July 29 deadline, gives the company approximately three months till DMC’s 10-year anniversary on October 17 to include the winners’ entries in their new title. And, really, why ask for Devil May Cry fan art, especially for any character from past Devil May Cry games, if not for a Devil May Cry anniversary collection?

@Clovin64 You could be right, I just thought it made more sense seeing as in Dante is much older in 4, just as he was in 2.

@GringoStar I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that DMC4 was set before DMC2. I guess Capcom just really didnt want to continue where DMC2's story left off...

@Smash Bro- Also, Devil May Cry 3 is a prequel to Devil May Cry 1. So if you play 3, then play 1 you'll get some references. So it really goes like this: Devil May Cry 3 (or as I like to call it Zero), Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 (which is meh at best), Devil May Cry 4. Confusing much? Very.

@Smash bro- Try and get your hands on a PS2 at a second hand shop or something- DMC 1 and 3 are well worth the price, even if their graphics are a little outdated. It's weird DMC went straight from 1 to 3, though, without having a DMC2 in the middle...

Whatever Capcom's cooking up, they'd better do it for 360 as well. I've never played DMC 1 through 3, due to my lack of Playstation. DMC IV was awesome, but I'm starting to feel like that was just a big tease for 360 owners. We want to be part of DMC history, too, Capcom...

Hell yes, I'd buy a DMC HD Collection. I'd skip DMC2, but DMC1 and 3 definitely deserve revisiting.

this is what I felt when I bought the god of war collection

What is this Devil May Cry 2? Nonsense I say...NONSENSE!

It's a good thing they only made three of these games because I bet a fourth one would be one hell of a flop. *cough*

I don't quite know what it is, but somehow seeing the address here is for the 360 section of the site, but since you have a PS3 box with an only on Playstation label on it, I am laughing instead of crying.

OH MY Feather-loving GOD YES. And hopefully, they touch up the crap-storm that was DMC2. If they make it, people will buy. Especially me. HD Dante would be so hot, I may be forced to have sex with the disk.
