If there's one thing gamers like having in their hands, it's portable Nintendo systems. Since the dawn of time (or 1989, whichever came first), the Big N has been the dominant force in on-the-go game consoles. But if you don't have their latest and greatest in your grubby mitts yet, now might be the perfect time to remedy that situation. After all, Amazon's got 3DS XL systems (in your choice of four colors) on sale for just $169.99 with free shipping. Thats $30 less than standard retail price, which is just about enough to cover a 3DS game to go with it!
Speaking of hand-held Nintendo consoles, Best Buy is currently taking pre-orders for the limited edition Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL bundle, which includes a golden-colored 3DS XL system emblazoned with the iconic Triforce symbol as well as a download code for the Link Between Worlds game itself. The price tag on the bundle reads $219.99 with free shipping, which is certainly more than you'd pay if you bought one of the above systems and the Zelda game separately ... but this one gives you both the Zelda-themed unit and the ability to triumphantly hold it above your head while making that "just got an item" Zelda sound with your mouth.
Speaking of hand-held Nintendo consoles, ThinkGeek is now offering a flask that looks remarkably similar to the original Game Boy for a mere $19.99. As the ThinkGeek product description states, "This flask lets you relive the joys of youth, only with alcohol." 'Nuff said!
In other ThinkGeek news, the eccentric retailer is now offering Assassin's Creed IV fans the opportunity to hoist the black flag — literally! For $39.99, you can own an exact reproduction of AC4's sub-titular banner, complete with a skull and ... whatever that other thing is (a sextant?). The price may seem steep for a piece of cloth but once you have this baby atop your mast you'll be able to plunder that back in no time.
In other Assassin's Creed accessory news, Amazon is offering the complete line of AC action figures from McFarlane Toys — including an exclusive figure of Black Bart from AC4 for $14.99. Since he looks like a regular pirate and not a video game character, you can probably get away with telling the co-workers who see him on your desk that you're really into history or something.
Since we're on the topic of pirates, let's talk about Pirates! The iPad version of the classic booty-hunting sim from games industry titan Sid Meier is now on sale for just $0.99, down from its regular price of $2.99. The iPad version is an adaptation of the 2004 version of the game which we gave a whopping 4.5 stars in our Sid Meier's Pirates!: Live The Life review. At less than a dollar, you're basically ramming your ship into publisher 2K Games' ship then forcibly boarding it and killing everyone you encounter. Ahoy!
If you're more into simulating land-based crime, consider picking up Sleeping Dogs for your Xbox 360 or PS3 for about $18. This GTA-style open-world game, which picked up 4.5 stars in our Sleeping Dogs review, puts you in the shoes of badass undercover cop Wei Shen as he kicks his away through the Hong Kong underworld. Not only is the melee combat extremely fun but the in-game GPS puts the directional queues right into the game world instead of on a little mini map! Hi-yah!
