Dead Rising 2 Combo Card Weapon Guide

Power Guitar

Location of Card:
During day 2, around 4am, the “Rock Heroes” case starts up. Save Floyd by getting him back to the safe house and he will give you this combo card.

Location of Components:
This is created by combining an Electric Guitar with an Amplifier.

Electric Guitars are gotten by going to one of two different locations: Tunemakers in Royal Flush Plaza will have a few on the walls and the Americana Casino has a few on some of the walls. Any of these locations will net you a few guitars.

Amplifiers are gotten by going to either Tunemakers in the Royal Flush Plaza or to the stage on the Silver Strip. There are a few in these locations, located right near maintenance rooms at that, to suit your needs.

Descriptions of Weapons:
It’s time to rock out! The Power Guitar is one of the best crowd pleasers in the game. By crowd pleaser I mean “knocks the hell out of zombie crowds” every time you use it. The two main problems with this weapon are its wind up time and its lack of killing potential. Whenever you press the attack button Chuck leans up and then drops to a knee with a guitar riff that sends every zombie in the area to the ground if you can avoid being hit while starting up the attack. Only the zombies’ right in front of you are killed most of the time so it’s not quite useful for that. It can help greatly with crowd control, knocking enemies all over the place instead of actually killing most of them.

Notes: Helpful to knock around zombies but little else.

Rating: 2/5

Ripper

Location of Card:
Gotten simply by leveling up between levels 10 – 20.

Location of Components:
You’re going to need a Cement Saw and a Saw Blade to put this bad boy together.

The Cement Saw is needed for a few combo weapons and they can be found pretty much exclusively in South Plaza. Check under the awnings in the central hallways of the area to find it lying on the ground with some other items.

Saw Blades are easily found by leaving the safe room and searching the nearby hallways. In the first boiler room you can find many of these lying around and they don’t get much harder to find, especially in maintenance rooms.

Descriptions of Weapons:
With a name like “Ripper” you’re expecting this to be a devastatingly powerful cutting tool and it is. But it’s also laughably slow when it comes to swinging and recovering from any attack. So while it might be nice to have such a devastating attack that kills most zombies in the game, even the Gas Zombies, in one deadly swing you’re almost guaranteed to get hit sooner or later. Once you drop the weapon getting it back and ready to use will likely just get you hit again.

Notes: Slow but devastating.

Roaring Thunder

Location of Card:
Gotten simply by leveling up between levels 25 - 35

Location of Components:
For this bad boy you’re going to need a Battery and a Goblin Mask.

Getting the Battery is a bit trickier since these are somewhat rare. They can be found in various locations throughout the city as well as in several maintenance rooms but your best bet is to go to the maintenance room in the rear of Tunemakers. This room always has two batteries in it.

The Goblin Mask is obtained by going to the Children’s Castle on the second floor of the Royal Flush Plaza. Otherwise the only other place to find them is outside of the maintenance rooms along the Silver Strip.

Descriptions of Weapons:
An interesting little weapon but not exactly one that’s incredibly useful. Kind of like the Fountain Mask you place this one a zombies head to activate it. Unlike that mask this one fires electricity from its mouth, electrocuting the other zombies in the area. It doesn’t seem to do much to the zombie who is wearing it but will clear a fairly wide path amongst the rest of them. It doesn’t really hurt survivors very much so it’s often safe to use around them.

Notes: Amusing but not very powerful.

Rating: 2/5

Rocket Launcher

Location of Card:
This is gotten from the Yucatan Casino by defeating Roger and Reed during “The Worlds Most Dangerous Trick” case.

Location of Components:
By taking a Lead Pipe and Duct Taping some Rocket Fireworks to it you get this weapon.

Lead Pipes aren’t all that difficult to find with one even being located in the Royal Flush Plaza and one often lying around in the boiler room outside of the maintenance room exit. Two more can be found outside of the maintenance room on the Silver strip, between the two dumpsters.

The Rocket Fireworks aren’t as easy to find, requiring that you head to the Rockets Red Glare along the Silver Strip. Inside some of the other mall areas you can find other shops that sell fireworks but the Rockets Red Glare shops are the most reliable spots.

There is a maintenance room accessed by going through the sex stores on the Silver Strip that has the lead pipes and rockets required to make this.

Descriptions of Weapons:
Containing sixty solid shots of zombie slaughtering goodness the Rocket Launcher is probably the best crowd control weapon in the entire game. Every single rocket it fires can kill one or two zombies as well as sending others flying left and right. You can crank out the rockets at an incredibly rapid pace, slaughtering entire zombie hordes easy as pie. The main disadvantage to this is that it’s a carry only weapon meaning that you can’t stash it nor can you get hit without dropping it. Also the rockets can travel unpredictably so don’t expect them to always go where you’re aiming.

Notes: Very powerful but flawed.

Rating: 3/5

Snowball Cannon

Location of Card:
On the second floor of the Palisades Mall, just outside of the maintenance room, you can find a movie poster for “Brainfreeze” that gives Chuck this one.

Location of Components:
By combining a Fire Extinguisher and a Watergun you get this… somehow.

Fire Extinguishers can be gotten from just about any interior area, sitting inside of one of the fire extinguisher boxes. There is easy access to one within the safe room and a few others within Royal Flush Plaza if you just search around for them.

Waterguns can be found, like most of the toys, by going to any children’s toy store. A good example is Ultimate Playhouse in Palisades Mall where you can find this and many other objects for further zombie humiliation.

Descriptions of Weapons:
Holy crap is this weapon awesome. Each shot that it fires will freeze any individual zombie it hits as well as possibly any others who are right on top of the target. The following shot will shatter the zombie or you can just use a melee attack to get rid of them. Since you can actually stash this one it’s quite the effective weapon. As an added bonus you can find waterguns all over the mall and surrounding areas and fire extinguishers are just as easy to find so you can always have one of these on hand especially once the Gas Zombies begin attacking since they freeze quite easily.

Notes: Surprisingly effective weapon.

*places his bronzed Knife Gloves up on his mantle* Thank you my friends, you have treated me well through my zombie killing career. Yes, the Tesla Ball is a rip snorting load of fun to use, even if it's not the easiest to create.

Many of the safe rooms in Dead Rising 2 contain the tools required to make combo weapons. It felt kind of redundant to point most of these out as the combo weapons really aren't all that effective. They're fun but you're often better with a shotgun, LMG and a few Spiked Bats. @kyle94: Without the combo card the weapon takes roughly two to three shots to kill an individual zombie. With the combo card it's basically just a glorified shotgun. So overall it seemed kind of like a worthless weapon to me. @Michael: I'd have loved to have been part of the conversation that brought on that whoopsie, heh! I was wondering what the heck that was or if it was a prank from a colleague (a friend made it so that Word replaced every instance of the word "this" with "that". Made for some uh... interesting re-edits.

For the electric chair. Both items can be found in the BBQ shack next to the Americana casino. There are always two or three wheelchairs outside the maintenance room and the room itself has a battery.

Nice guide. An easy way to get wingmen and queens is to go to pot of gold in silver strip and combine the 3 orange juices with beer. Grab the chaisaw from the top of the stage and combine it with the motorcyle. Drink one of the nectars then get on the bike and run over zombies. When you get off there should be around 6 queens. Then just fuse some with the nectar.

I didn't think the gem blower was useless. I don't know what you were doing with it, but when I used it after I got the combo card, it worked rather well. Wasn't practical, but did kill zombies. Hell, it was basically a giant shotgun for me. I remember shooting one zombie next to me and his body went flying while his head floated in mid-air for a second and then fell down.

I actually thought up combining a blast frequency gun with an amp shortly after finding it. Yay for me!!! :)

Sometimes I'm typing in AIM and it's not the active window, and sometimes PickeHitlered happens. @_@ Fixed, and the Guide is complete!

Yeah, wow. No idea what the hell happened there. I know my computer was having a seizure thanks to all the video capture while I was typing. What's even more interesting is that typo isn't in my original file. Weird. @leyviur - I found it much easier to grab two bow and arrows from the Chieftains Hut, the two dynamite sticks in RFP and use the two Blambows to slaughter zombies left and right. I see your point though but it's still fairly limited in use.

I can't believe that the GR guys haven't noticed that the paragraph on where tennis raquets are was taken over by Hitler. Is this like some kind of new reverse Grammar Nazi that purposely misspells words?

PickeHitlerd? People, I think we just got Hitler Roll'd...

You don't get a combo card for it from Case Zero, but the Beer Hat is a carryover from Case Zero as well. In Still Creek, when making the jump across the alleyway to get to the hunting store, turn right instead of left and follow the planks on top of those buildings to find a lone construction hat. The bowling alley or bar has plenty of beer.

An incredible use for the Dynameat is for early leveling. Near the Atlantica casino is a maintenence room where you can make the knife gloves. Right outside this room is a stick of dynamite and hunk of meat. Using this you can throw it at a nearby enemy horde for a giant PP spike that remains significant until level 30, or so. Respawning these items is merely a matter of going into the casino and back out again. I got to around level 35 using this method, and had no trouble running through the story afterwards.

Sorry for the double post but there is a much more convenient location for dynamite in the Royal Flush Plaza. Three sticks to be exact. Go toward the exit that leads to Fortune Park but stay in the plaza. Upstairs you will see a red phone booth that you can climb. Climb up onto the overhang for the store underneath and walk over to the broken railing and jump up again. Turn around and jump to the flower box and climb up one last time. There will be a large hot air balloon with a blue stuffed bunny and three glorious sticks of TNT. Its a long jump but easily makeable. Alternatively, instead of jumping to the balloon you can climb into the windows and snag a sniper rifle, steak and a spear. Makes the Blambow more enticing with less travel!

A note on the Beer Hat: its usefulness increases signifigantly if you pick up the Drinks magazine and either Health magazine. Drinks - Drinking alcohol no longer makes chuck puke. Found in Atlantica Casino on top of the ceiling fixture near the clam shell.

Great guide and you are right in the baseball bat with nails is the best weapon in the game. I used that for most of the game
  • NathanXplosion - October 5, 2010 5:29 a.m.

My favorite combo weapon has to be the Blitzkrieg, which is a wheelchair, a car battery, and a merc assault rifle. Its not the one I used the most, just the one I had the most fun while using when I did.
