David Cronenberg rebooting The Fly

Despite past claims that he's not interested in re-visiting the film, it looks like David Cronenberg will now work on the remake of his film.

It's ironic, since his 1986 pic was itself a remake of Kurt Neumann's 1958 sci-fi horror, and he hasn't wanted much else to do with Seth Brundle and his teleportation experiments, at least until recently.

He skipped the awful sequel, but did work on the opera version which played on stage in Paris and LA last year.

Now Fox has roped him in to develop a fresh take on the material, having already started work on a remake without him. Cronenberg is planning to possibly write and direct it.

It may have to wait, though - he's still got thriller The Matarese Circle on his schedule first…
