Dark Souls PC version extra content coming to consoles as DLC

The buyers of the PC version of Dark Souls wont be the only ones with access to the two new bosses being added to the Prepare to Die edition. Namco Bandai and From Software have announced that content will be coming to consoles as well in the form of a $15 DLC pack called "Artorias of the Abyss."

The DLC pack will add quite a bit of new content, from new zones to new bosses, items and enemy types. The Prepare to Die edition will arrive on PC on August 24 while the console DLC pack will be arriving sometime "this winter" according to IGN.

Oh hell yes. Time to clean off the ol' zweihander and get ready to stab my way through Lordran again.
  • malypso - May 31, 2012 2:36 p.m.

I'm so damn glad it's coming to consoles, I almost thought that PC players were only getting it. I'm about to platinum Demons Souls after 1 more trophy and Dark Souls after a few more. I can't wait to get more areas, different enemy types and bosses. Thanks Fromsoftware!

Wow, this was unexpected, as they had previously announced that there would be no DLC for this game. Well, it's still quite a bit away, so we'll see, but if it does add more worthy lenght and gameplay value to the game, I'll consider getting it ^^
  • SpadesSlick - May 31, 2012 11:24 a.m.

They are only cheap if you don't know what the hell you are doing.
  • Pooka - May 31, 2012 11:24 a.m.

Rofl, "memorizing enemy placement"... I just picked the game back up after 6 months of not playing it and did fine. And the enemies aren't cheap, you just need to be better.
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 12:12 p.m.

thats called memorization , idiot. you remembered where the enemies were, cause you fucking played it already. do you really not grasp that? and if by "be better" you mean that i need to have more time on my hands to run through arbitrary monster gauntlets in dull brown grey environments over and over just to memorize their patterns and placement so i can go about not calling them cheap, then i agree with you. but i doubt that's what you meant.
  • Pooka - June 3, 2012 10:50 a.m.

No, it's called having half a brain and walking around with your shield up. And by "be better", I mean you need to not be terrible. You tell me how the enemies were "being cheap", and I can tell you how you could have avoided it. Apparently you weren't "Prepared to Die" ;)
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 10:43 a.m.

ugh. fuck dark souls. never have i seen a game SOLELY about memorizing enemy placement get so much fucking hype as this game's gotten. it's getting REALLY old. i bet 3290458 to 1 the new "content" is just gonna be more brown grey areas, more cheap enemies, and more memorization of their patterns and placement to beat them. fuckit.
  • CrashmanX - May 31, 2012 11:20 a.m.

Then don't play it? No one is forcing you to play it. Also the enemies aren't "Cheap" they're tactful. You gotta be cautious is all.
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 12:04 p.m.

wow no one's forcing me to play it? what an enlightening comment! no shit. now fuck off.
  • bboyd - May 31, 2012 11:46 a.m.

It's not about enemy placement, it's about memorizing enemy patterns and how to react properly. Which is the sign of a good combat system in my opinion. And if you thought Dark Souls was all "brown grey areas" then you didn't play very far. Even the DLC trailers show forestry. There are legitimate reasons why one wouldn't like Dark Souls, sucking at the game and obviously giving up isn't one of them. If you don't like it, then feel free to avoid to avoid posts about the game. Dark Souls is commonly regarded as fantastic, and From Software deserves every loyal fan they've earned due to its success.
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 12:08 p.m.

lmfao the typical dark souls apologist/fanboy response. whenever fair criticism is leveled at their favorite game, they respond "ohhh you must have just sucked". no, asshole, i didn't "suck", and i didn't "give up." the GAME sucked, so i traded it in for something worth a third of it's price at the time but that was a FAR better game. it's not my fault the ENTIRE point of dark souls is to run through the same areas fighting the same enemies over and over until through sheer repetition you remember exactly where each one is and how they attack, only to rinse and repeat in the next area. if that's good combat to you then great, awesome, enjoy it. but you're a fucking idiot. anything else? no? have a nice day then.
  • bboyd - May 31, 2012 12:44 p.m.

Typically, I wouldn't use the "you suck argument", but seeing as how you only complained about enemy placement for some odd reason (never heard that before, pretty much a non issue), I went ahead and assumed you died. . . alot. Plus, I'm in a particularly snippy mood today, sue me. Yes, I said you probably suck, what of it? Seeing as how you only came in this topic to crap on the fans, I feel it was deserved anyway. And my day was already going swimmingly, but thank you for your wishes.
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 12:54 p.m.

well that was settled maturely. I rudely vocally hate the game, you rudely assume i sucked at it, I rudely tell you your wrong, you politely say you might've been wrong but I had it coming anyway, and I actually agree with you. dark souls isn't for everyone. not everyone has the patience to grind and grind and grind through same areas to make progress, and not everyone feels that huge sense of accomplishment ds fans feel when finally overcoming something. to us it's like "fuck, that took long enough". that said, I think it's weak as hell for From to come out and say no dlc! and yet here we are looking at a dlc announcement. how bout sticking to their guns? hope your day keeps going well.
  • bboyd - May 31, 2012 1:02 p.m.

To be fair, pretty much everything we've seen is coming from the pleas of fans anyway. No PC version? Fans whine until it happens. What, it's PC exclusive content? Fans whine until we get it. I would actually call us Dark Souls fans a pretty entitled bunch, but From Software is pretty giving developer, and they do oblige. I, like many others, have wanted more content since I beat the game anyway.

Someone needs a hug. And better gaming skills. Typical player who cant play Dark Souls for shit comment.
  • BladedFalcon - May 31, 2012 12:05 p.m.

Don't hate the game, hate the fact that you suck at it.
  • lazer59882 - May 31, 2012 12:13 p.m.

    lol. typical.
  • BladedFalcon - May 31, 2012 12:21 p.m.

I know, right? An idiot complains about the game because he doesn't like the way it's played, either because he sucks at it, or just can't admit that it's not his cup of tea. So instead to chalk it up to different tastes, he just goes and bash the game in a moronically self entitled way. Happens every day.
  • malypso - May 31, 2012 10:21 p.m.

Umm... WTF r you talking about? Every single game has pre-scripted enemy placement!Demon/Dark Souls, is a game where dying is part of the experience. Instead of being punished by it, you learn from it. If your fortunate enough to have online while playing, then your able to see bloodstains on the ground where someone else died as a warning so you don't make the same mistakes he or she made. It takes a lot of patients and skill to master a unique game like that, thus I conclude that its not for everyone. Most gamers are so pacified by linear games, that hold your hand telling you what to do next, Dark Souls is nothing like that. Dark Souls gives you the freedom to explore and choose your path as you please. I just got a platinum trophy for Demon's Souls and am about 80% on Dark Souls and it felt great! I've been playing games since since 1988 and this game truly feels like a classic old-school game. We didn't have checkpoint around every corner and when you died, you had to do it again. Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Mario, Wizards and Warriors, and many more were built on this formula and were praised for it! You have every right not to like this game, but why target yourself and bash a game because you don't like it? IMHO, Demon/Dark Souls are two of the greatest games this generation and I hope that Fromsoftware decides to keep making these types of games as they are many people like myself that actually love a challenge.
