Codename D - a Kinect game actually worth getting hyped for?

Super punk dev Suda 51 creating game for Microsoft's motion-sensing gadget

So far, Kinect has done a miserable job of convincing gamers that it's something they'll want to play. However, when developer Goichi Suda (aka Suda 51, aka the guy that made Killer 7 and No More Heroes) announces that he's working on something for Microsoft's controller-free gadgetron, then gamers really should allow themselves to get ever so slightly hyped. After all, he makes bloody good games that are extremely bad-ass and more than just a little bit mental.

Revealed at Microsoft's TGS conference, Goichi Suda's Kinect game is called Codename D. It's an action game that involves fighting for survival inside an evil amusement park. And that's about all there is to know about it right now. This is the reveal trailer, which, quite frankly, reveals very little:

I wonder if that tiger dude is any relation to Skittles?

Sorry that should have been a more excited meh. As in I'm sure anything he does will be as good as NMH but tank due to lack of sales.

looks interesting, also, Suda has really weird and cool ideas, we gotta see how this story develops!

hrm... hopefully animal/people will actually explode when you throw fiery baseballs at their heads. only problem is... i'm interested in the game, but not kinect.

If done well with Kinect, this game will be worth buying Kinect for!

i'm not totally pumped about Kinect just yet, but i'm excited by this game just for the indication that there may be something to it... I've of the same opinion from day one about kinect - i don't need it, but if it turns out to be awesome then i'll get it. I think it's stupid to write things off before they've even been given a chance to show what they can do, and this to me indicates that serious developers aren't all just ignoring it. Even if the game tanks, it's a promise of things to come. I still think people need to think about the box - Kinect may be crap for doing 'serious' games as they exist now, but what's to stop someone developing a completely new style of game built around this control method?

Not enough to get exited about yet but we will see. Motion controls will get their moment sooner or later.
  • RushofBlood17 - September 16, 2010 3:55 p.m.

I would be very excited if moving your character or whatever didn't suck on Kinect.
  • JohnnyMaverik - September 16, 2010 4 p.m.

@ Matt Mildly intrigued? That's the best I can do... No More Hero's weren't good because they were on the Wii and used motion controls, in fact they would have been better games if they hadn't.
  • pollenski - September 16, 2010 4:42 p.m.

So u play a guy who makes people explode when he changes his grip on a baseball...nice film editing and soundtrack in the 'reveal' but completely unsold.
  • Redeater - September 16, 2010 4:56 p.m.

@Matt I will be excited if kinect isn't a crutch. NMH would have been fantastic if it was on the PS3 or 360. I bought both of them for the wii but have no desire to replay them because of the terrible waggle controls.
  • JohnnyMaverik - September 16, 2010 7:08 p.m.

Just to confirm the above statement, I didn't meant No More Hero's 1 and 2 were bad game's because it was on the Wii and used Motion control, I meant they're good games despite being on the Wii and using motion control, but would have been even better not on the Wii and using a more traditional control scheme.
