Chris Pratt wins lead in Guardians Of The Galaxy

Marvel has finally landed its man for the leading role in Guardians Of The Galaxy , and as is often the way with these things, it’s none of the candidates that had previously been linked to the part!

Instead, the role has gone to Chris Pratt, who will play Peter Quill, otherwise known as Star-Lord. A character born to a human mother and alien father, he pilots a psychically-connected spacecraft and is very much the hero of the series.

With Zachary Levy and John Krasinski among the other names to be linked, it seems that director James Gunn was keen to appoint someone with solid comic timing, and Pratt would certainly fit that brief.

Regularly showing off his comedy chops in TV series Parks And Recreation , Pratt recently set about stealing various scenes in The Five-Year Engagement , and should bring a warm and likeable presence to the role of Star-Lord.

Marvel’s attention will now turn to filling out the rest of that colourful cast, with Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler having recently been linked to the project. Guardians Of The Galaxy opens in the US on 1 August 2014.
