This best works with a large Golem present.

Pull down on the left thumb stick and hold down the B button while facing your target. The Rookie should do an 180 degree turn then start running away screaming.

Pulling down on the left thumb stick and holding down the B button for a second or two can also be useful if you want to make a quick 180 degree turn to face the ghosts behind you.
