This is a great game and the need for some sort of strategy guide is a must for players trying to complete the game with everything. I generally don't write FAQs but if a game is released and has no type of guide I will take the time to write one provided that I have the game. I hope this guide helps many of you and if you have any suggestions feel free to drop me a line. One thing I will not do is repeat stuff that is in the instruction manual but I will instead give helpful tips. Until the guide is completed some stuff may be missing so bear with me until I can get that stuff done. General Playing Tips ****************************************************************************** Since you have purchased the game, I will not recover things that you will find in the instruction Manual but instead I will give you helpful tips on making your experience with this game much more enjoyable. These are really general but they should help out. I think the Walkthrough is great to have but I also think that building your characters the way you want is equally important. ============== Exploration ============== This is the most important aspect of the game and something that many people overlook. In writing this guide I checked every location after I did anything and the result was that I found nearly everything. To explore you must first be on top of a location and then press the X button. These are some of the choices that you will see. - Gather Information - Go to Inn - Go to Shops Those are the main three and lead to sub-menus. Sometimes if you talk to a certain person or complete an event, different options will be open to you. Some of them appear right away and some aren't so easy to get. Following the guide will help out in this regard. If you ever find yourself stuck just remember to search everywhere. ============== Random Battles ============== Random Battles are a good way to build your characters because as you increase in level the monsters get stronger as well. Depending on your location the terrain will be different but that's no problem. There are 3 types of random battle situations. Normal - Everyone starts equal Attack Advantage - Enemies start with the ATW bar up. Surrounded - Enemies are all around you and your ATW bar is up. Use random battles throughout the game to level up. The experience for winning isn't that great but you will earn a lot of Elm for completing them. ============== Friendship ============== In Growlanser 2 if you go to the status screen you will see a bar to the left of the resistance stat. The bar has 10 levels and will turn from Red-->Yellow- ->Green. Throughout the game Wein will choose how he interacts with the other characters. If you choose correctly then the friendship of the person affected will increase. Choosing incorrectly will affect the characters negatively. It's in your best interst to keep the others happy so that you can get their endings. Throughout the guide I will tell you how characters are being affected. ============== STR and Armor ============== Even though you can equip any Armor in the game at any time, every piece of armor has a STR requirement and if you do not qualify then a movement penalty will be enforced. Only take a movement penalty if the character you plan to use doesn't need to move quickly. ==================================== Mission Completes vs Mission Clear ==================================== Throughout the game you will want to strive for Mission Completes because getting Mission Completes will determine certain events in the game. If you play a mission and you don't get a Mission Complete, reset and try again. Getting a Mission Complete means doing more than the minimum. Example: Mission 01: Officers Field Exam Mission Clear - 1 to 5 enemies defeated Mission Complete - Defeat all 6 students One other thing that you may notice is that there are different Mission Complete animations. While they are random you can get two of them every single time. Hold down L2 - Spinning Mission Complete Hold Down R2 - Mission Complete with sword Just hold down the button before the Mission Complete comes up. ****************************************************************************** II. Walkthrough ****************************************************************************** This is the start of the adventure and using this guide will get you everybody's ending. One thing that you must remember is to go to each location in the order that they appear and when completing Missions, make sure that you always get a Mission Complete. Main Story Path | | | =========================== | ****************************************************************************** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 01 ~Officers Exam~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When you begin the game of Growlanser II you are in control of Wein Cruz who has just taken the written portion of the final exam to become a military officer. When Logan asks how you did you are given three choices. - I am confident I did well - I did all right - I didn't do very well After answering the initial question, Logan will give you a ring that will help you on your way to becoming a great leader. It is a ring weapon and will transform into a physical weapon. Not everyone has success but you seem to be a natural. After some chitchat it's time to begin the interview portion of your examination. The answers that you provide here will be the backbone of your quest so answer carefully. These questions will be a basis for your starting stats but don't get too caught up in trying to achieve the best possible answers because there is no real way to get every category to the maximum. Here are the questions to the interview. If you would like to know how you did on answering a certain question then just listen to the response that Logan gives you. What quality is most important in a commander? - Charisma - Battle Experience - Decision Skills - Courage --------------------------------------------------------- Below are the follow up questions to the question above --------------------------------------------------------- What else is important? (Charisma) - Appearance - Empathy - Super Human Ability - Kindness Tell me, how would you deal with a surprise attack? (Decision Skills) (Battle Experience) - Retreat and regroup - Counterattack immediately - Defend and prepare to counter - Judge size and strength of your attackers So then, what kind of person is courageous? Before you begin you must report to the training hall to get equipment. This happens automatically and shortly Maximillian Schneider will join you. The exam is about to start but before you begin Max will tell you the rules if you wish to listen. During the exam a team of two (you and Max) must fight against a number of other teams and the team that has at least one survivor at the end wins the melee. This is a practical exam so how you fight can be more important than winning or losing. Of course winning should be the goal. After explaining the rules Max will also ask you some question but you can decline. After the speeches and small talk the practical skills exam will begin. You are team D and your goal is to defeat the other three teams and show your skill in battle. This is a free for all battle and like all missions in this game there are two possible ways to pass the mission. The first is to complete the mission with minimum efficiency (Mission Clear) and the second is to complete a mission completely (Mission Complete). ============================================================================== | Mission 01: Officer Field Exam | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | All Enemies Destroyed None | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 1 Trainee x6 None | | | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - All 6 enemies defeated ========== Start out having Wein attack Student 2 while Max casts Fire Arrow. Student 4 will cast Ice Barrage on Student 5 first. Max should then finish off student 5 with Fire Arrow and then begin casting the spell again. Student 4 will cast Ice Barrage on Student 6 reducing its HP to half. When Max gets another chance to cast his spell, leave Student 6 and target Student 1 after Student 3 has hit him twice. Wein should be finishing off Student 2 and then focus on Student 3 and Max should cast Fire Arrow on Student 4 and then attack Student 6. When all 6 students are destroyed, you will get a Mission Complete. ************************** Understanding the results ************************** Take a look at the bars next to each of your stats to see how you did. The farther to the right the better you did in that particular category of the exam. By pressing the X button you can see what your stats at level 1 are. After that Imperial Knight Reaves speaks to you before you begin on your real adventure. If you didn't like the results then you can reset and do the test again. After a short scene you will be speaking with Max and he will ask you a question about your future. Questions like this will appear throughout the game and depending on how you answer will affect the friendship of Wein and the person asking the question. Ah, yes. Your dream of becoming an Imperial Knight, right? (Max) - Yes, it's been my goal for a long time (Choose) - That is only the beginning. - How about you Max? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 02 ~Final Exam in Starkberg~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After the scene on the hill with Max both of you report to the Burnstein Commander who has already decided on your next assignment. Your job is to protect the citizens of Starkberg. You must report to Logan who is already at Starkberg. This is not only a mission but it is also your final exam. Wein will intervene and once again is given choices of response. Commander... - I would like to postpone the final exam - Why not just give us a passing grade now? - I know these are difficult times... (Choose) After departing you will find yourself on the map. Navigating the map is simple. Available destinations will be green and a selected destination will be red. Just select a destination and your character will move toward it. If you want to cancel a move in progress then just press the triangle button. This is where you can also go into the menu as well. While on the map press the square button to open the menu. The menu lets you do things like save and load, equip Armor, and view status. Now that you have messed around with the menus it's time to go to Starkberg. Whenever you go to a location that could affect the story you will automatically enter. By pressing the X button on the map you can further investigate a location to get information about what's going on in the world. Try it now by standing on the Burnstein Capital. If you go into the Kingdom Archives you can find out all sorts of information about the game and the world in Growlanser II. I recommend looking at this before beginning your mission. Enter the Topic Ring Weapons and Gems and when you exit you will find a gem "Lv2 Blood Blade". ************************************* Burnstein Capital ************************************* If you neglected to skip the paragraph above, make sure that you read what's inside of the Kingdom Archives. There is a lot of useful information in there and by reading the book about Rings and Gems; you will receive Lv2 Blood Blade gem. The shops also contain a new piece of Armor that is a bit stronger than what you have now. Don't waste your money on it though because you don't need it. **************** | Armor Shop | **************** Clothes 1 STR 30 Elm Heavy Clothes 4 STR 80 Elm ************************************* On to Starkberg ************************************* As you make your way to Starkberg you will stop automatically at Burnstein W Capital. Max will explain why he is joining the knights and you can agree or disagree with him. If you agree with him then your friendship with him will go up to the maximum. Press the X button while on the map and you can get information as well as see a short scene with Wein and Max at the lookout. To be able to advance to Starkberg you are going to need to speak with the Officer here. Money is not that plentiful at the start so to obtain an extra 30 Elm, talk to the Peddler at Burnstein W Capital and he will tell you that he has lost his bag of merchandise. After that go south to North Clain Village where an Officer will chase you out. Gather information at that spot and speak to the Female Cadet who will find a bag of merchandise. Return to the Peddler, tell him about it and then return to North Clain Village and speak to the Peddler again to receive the money. When you arrive in Starkberg you report to Logan right away. Logan explains the situation and introduces Wein and Max to Wolfgang the leader of the mercenaries. After Wolfgang speaks, monsters begin to invade the village. When more enemies begin to appear and a child is trapped outside, Logan orders the two of you to rescue the child. Max says "At once sir" and Wein responds... - Completely Obediently - Comment excitedly - Let actions say it all (Choose) ============================================================================== | Mission 02: Steeling Starkberg | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | All Enemies Destroyed Civilian casualties | | Maximillian is defeated | | Wein is defeated | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 1 Slime Level 1 Slime x2 | | Level 3 Imp Level 15 Yung | | Level 9 Hyde Level 4 Demi Yung | | Level 11 Brainiac Level 2 Slime x2 | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - All enemies destroyed and no civilian ========== deaths. The only enemy that the two of you can kill right now is the Slime and the Imp. The Slimes are easy to defeat but the Imp can cast magic at a distance. Have Max take out the Imp with Fire Arrow while Wein moves toward the child. Wein can take out the Slimes pretty easily and Max should kill the slime that is near him after the Imp is dead. Now that the Imp and the Slime are dead, have Wein attack the second slime that appears (the one nearest the house) and Max the other one. After the child reaches the house, a Demi Yung will appear from the back. It will break the door down in two turns, so make sure that you are ready for it, but don't get in the way of the civilians when they try to escape. Once the Demi Yung breaks down the door to the house, cast Fire Arrow on the Demi Yung and then after it's defeated go after the two Slimes that came from the north. Don't worry about the civilians getting damaged at this point because it doesn't seem like the Slimes can catch them anyway. After the battle, allocate all of your Master Points toward the Dash tech. Dash is the most useful tech in the game and you will need it to complete some missions. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 03 ~Yung Investigation~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After the battle at Starkberg it's very important that you stay at an inn to recover your MP for the next mission and to gather information. There is no really good information in Starkberg but if you travel to South Starkberg and investigate, you will find the King. The King doesn't like being in the castle all of the time and asks Wein if he will let him go. Wein can respond by saying... - It's too dangerous out here! (Choose) - I understand - I never saw a thing After sending the King back to the castle, visit Schwartzfals Village where you'll witness a scene with a young girl. It has nothing to do with your mission at hand but if you are interested in seeing everything then it doesn't hurt to pay a visit. After you are finished investigating the area go to the ruins west of Starkberg. ************************************* Starkberg ************************************* **************** | Armor Shop | **************** Clothes 1 STR 30 Elm Heavy Clothes 4 STR 80 Elm Fur Coat 8 STR 235 Elm ============================================================================== | Mission 03: Ruin Nation | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | All Enemies Destroyed Maximillian Defeated | | Wein Defeated | | | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 4 Demi Yung x2 Level 3 Bone Golem x3 | | Level 3 Imp | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Don't take too much damage or get warned ========== about the wall. Wein should use the Dash technique and then attack the first Demi Yung and Max cast Fire Arrows on the Demi Yung that Wein attacked. Wein will finish the Demi Yung on his next attack and Max can take out the sleeping Imp with two Fire Arrows. If the ring you get for defeating the first Demi Yung does not have a level 8 slot, you can redo the battle until you get one. If you don't, don't worry about it since this is only the beginning. Once Wein gets to a certain distance, the guardian in the upper left corner will come to life and pull a switch. Once the wall moves one time, a timer will appear below the map radar. When that timer gets to 0 it means that the wall is going to move again. Wein should be gin to move toward the Demi Yung while Max is casting his final Fire Arrow magic. Shortly after the wall closes for the first time a young boy named Hans will enter the ruins to help you. You don't need his help but now is not the time to argue. A new requirement will come up stating that if Hans is defeated the game is over. One thing that is not told to you at this point is that if Hans loses more than 50% of his HP then you will only get a Mission Clear. Two more guardians will come to life when Wein gets a little deeper into the ruins. When that happens, cast Fire Arrow on the Bone Golem close to the wall (Not the one that pulled the switch) and have Hans and Max attack the bottom Bone Golem while Wein clears out the enemies on the top. Max should use the Dash technique before selecting to attack. It will save a bit of time. After that Bone Golem is defeated all that's left is to help Wein at the top. With Max's movement doubled he will be able to reach Wein very quickly. As soon as you return to Starkberg, you report that the mission is complete. Logan dismisses the mercenaries and all that's left is for you to return to the Capital. After being released, Max says "so that means we're knights, right?" Wein responds... - We're both knights! That's great! - I'm glad we made it! - We can't relax...this is just the start. (Choose) Before you return to the Capital, visit Schwartzfals to view a scene between Charlone and Imperial Knight Julia. She gives Charlone a bit of negative advice but at least you know why Charlone thinks the way that she does. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 04 ~New Recruits~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After returning to Burnstein Capital the King officially makes Wein and Max Knights. A scene follows where Max and Wein are at the lookout upholding a tradition of trading gifts. Max gives Wein the "Lv8 Hyper-Attack" gem. If you defeated the monsters in the ruins quickly enough and you were lucky then one of them may have dropped a ring with a gem level of 8. If not, don't worry about because you will eventually get one. After the gift exchange Wein will get two subordinates, Charlone and Hans. Your initial friendship with them depends on how you respond to each of them through the questions. Charlone? - (But, she's my junior!) - (I don't know about this.) - (Whoo! She's kinda cute!) (Choose) Hans Bearnt? - Is this some kind of a joke? - (What's with the finger/nose thing? - Congratulations on qualifying! (Choose) A scene will take place after where you meet with Max who will give you the details of your next mission. Upon leaving, Max's messenger will give you 500 Elm. Your mission is to find out about the bandits that are pillaging the nearby villages and put a stop to it. After you are done with that Max has a favor to ask of you. It is to retrieve some books at the Magic Academy Library. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 05 ~Marauders~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Before rushing out to the next location, make sure that you visit the various locations because this beginning part of the game will be crucial in developing friendships with your characters. Charlone only has 5 bars but if you follow this guide throughout she will easily get to maximum in no time. First check out the shops in Burnstein. There is not only a gem shop now but the Armor Shop has upgraded its stock. This is a good time to improve your rings and buy some new gems. The HP Recovery is awfully tempting but I would suggest going with the lv2 Thunder Weapon. ************************************* Burnstein ************************************* **************** **************** | Armor Shop | | Gem Shop | **************** **************** Clothes 1 STR 30 Elm Lv1 Skill Lv 80 Elm Heavy Clothes 4 STR 80 Elm Lv1 HP Recovery 80 Elm Soft Leather 12 STR 460 Elm Lv2 Wind Weapon 150 Elm Lv2 Thunder Weapon 150 Elm Lv2 Ground Weapon 150 Elm When you enter Burnstein W Capital an argument between Hans and Charlone will occur. This is a crucial choice and affects the friendship of your characters. Wein will have 3 choices and your answers will affect how the characters like you. Since Hans is easy to increase, I suggest going with the middle choice to help build a relationship with Charlone. - Call her CC, too! - Tell the Runt to stop it. (Choose) - Reason with Hans. After this little confrontation, Charlone will have 6 bars and Hans only 5. You're already 60% of the way to become Charlone's friend. If you would like to know about the Growlanser then travel one space south to North Clain Village. A Minstrel at that location will tell you about it. After you have heard the story, head to Starkberg. Do not try to go to Clain Village at this point because if you do Charlone's friendship will decrease making all of your hard work useless. One thing that you may have happen to you here also is an unexpected battle. This choice is crucial because if you don't go here the first time you will miss some key information concerning Charlone and ultimately miss out on a bunch of Friendship building opportunities. After leaving the mansion a new choice "Speak to Hans" comes up. Wein will mention something about Hans being from the area and Hans asks if he could visit the orphanage sometime. Wein says... - Okay (Choose) - We don't have time. It doesn't matter how you answer because he will respect your decision either way. You will notice that there is the option to speak to Charlone, Speak to her and you will find out what her aspirations are. After speaking to Charlone, gather information and talk to the Student. Ask, "What's going on?" and the Student will tell you about the missing manuscripts. The manuscripts tell a summary of what happened in Growlanser I. Agree to help and the Student will give you "Story #1". Throughout this guide I will let you know when you can receive another piece of the story. If you want to read the stories, go to Starkberg and talk to the Editor. As you investigate, you find out that the Marauders have been coming from the northwest. A lot of new information has been found out and when you are about to leave three Mercenaries confront you. After the Mercenaries leave, Charlone asks, "what should we do?" Wein has three choices... - Check outside the village (Choose) - Force the investigation ahead - There's nothing to do, really After selecting the coarse of action, take this time to rearrange your rings and purchase new gems. I would suggest getting at least 2 Lv2 Thunder Weapons and Lv2 Indirect Range for Hans. Charlone will be used for support in the upcoming mission. After you have your new gems equip Wein and Hans with the Thunder Weapon. After you have completed preparations, go to Schwartzfals and speak to the Inn Maid or the Village Chief and then return to N Rottenbaum Village. ============================================================================== | Mission 04: Haute Mail | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | All Enemies Destroyed Wein is Destroyed | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 6 Mysterious Soldier x2 None | | | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat both Soldiers and do not let one ========== escape. Your first order of business should be to get to the raised clearing with Wein in the front and Hans and Charlone behind him. Position your characters way inside of the canyon so that when the two Armored Soldiers approach only one can get by. Cast Attack Up on Wein and Hans using Charlone and wait till the Soldiers get close. Once they are close enough, Hans and Wein can take care of them easily. The Mysterious Soldiers aren't that quick, so you will get many attacks in for every one of theirs. When Wein takes damage use Charlone to heal him. After one is defeated the other will attempt to flee. Simply chase him down and destroy him before he escapes. If your characters are having a hard time catching up, use the Dash technique. After the battle your group examines the Soldiers and find out something interesting. Charlone has an idea and Wein responds with... - That sounds reasonable - I don't think that's it. (Choose) - No, I think it was ghosts After examining the Armor you will receive the Marauders Remains to take to the Magic Academy with you. Now that you have solved the mystery about the Marauders it's time to uphold a promise to Hans by visiting Clain Village. ************************************* Clain Village ************************************* **************** | Armor Shop | **************** Clothes 1 STR 30 Elm Heavy Clothes 4 STR 80 Elm There is only an Armor Shop and it's not that good. What you are going to want to do at this point I s gather information. Talk to the Child to receive Story #2 and then speak to the Young Man. After speaking to the Young Man you will notice that a new option is available, "Speak with Hans". Speaking with Hans you find out about his history with the last village chief. Hans is kind of bummed out and you respond with... Hans... - Why don't we help investigate? (Choose) - Hatred will only consume you. - Hatred can give you a rush! After speaking with him you now must move on to the Magic Academy to get the books that Max has requested. If you are wondering how friendly your other characters are toward you at this point in the game, Hans is at 10 bars and Charlone is at 7. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 06 ~To the Magic Academy~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- On your way to the Magic Academy there are many places that we will stop by along the way. Many of them are optional but they are necessary for getting characters like Arieta and Ernest. The first place that we will stop at is the South Ruins. You will receive Story #3 here and Charlone will comment on how Wein changes when he visits Ruins. ************************************* Grasslands (Arieta Event #1) ************************************* This is the first time that you will see Arieta and certainly not the last. When you enter the Grassland your characters will chat a bit. Wein will look at some flowers and Charlone will ask... Did you promise to meet her that day? - Yes, I did - I just couldn't keep it. - ... (Choose) After that Wein will meet a girl named Arieta and offer to protect her but she declines and says that she is perfectly safe with her wolf Sereb. Arieta is key in the game because if you fulfill certain conditions, she will join you. Charlone will have 8 bars of Friendship following this event. ************************************* Southern Checkpoint (Optional) ************************************* The only person of interest here is the Time Bandit. Talk to him and he will cast a spell on you that will show you the time window for gaining rings. When you battle you will be able to see the time in which you can gain rings. You must take note however that once the timer reaches 0 then you can't get rings for the rest of the battle. This will be very useful when you are hunting for different types of rings. Wein can say to the Time Bandit... - Lay the time spell on us (Choose) - I've no time to know time ************************************* South Lost Forest (Ernest Event #1) ************************************* This is another important place to visit at this point in the game because here you will spend the night in a small cabin. You will find out after a short scene that the cabin belongs to Sir Ernest Lyell, a formal Imperial Knight. If you don't do this early event then you will not be able to obtain him as a character later on. After that is done its time to explore a few more places before visiting the Magic Academy. ************************************* East Lost Forest (Optional) ************************************* Enter the East lost Forest to find a Worried Woman. This woman has lost her child and she is frantically looking for him. Perhaps you can do her a favor and find him. Next, enter the North Lost Forest and Hans will find a small boy crying. Hans wants to take the kid back to his mother. When he asks if you have seen it say no and a new path to the north will lead to the dam. Take the time now to change rings and purchase any gems you may need. I suggest getting the deft wind for Charlone to improve her ATW. After you are finished there its time to go to the Upstream Dam. The Upstream Dam is completely optional but by not doing it you will miss out on receiving a gem. When you approach the dam you see a sign that says, "Unauthorized entry is off-limits..." Ignore the sign and enter anyways. After speaking with the two Rolandia soldiers there Hans will go fishing. He doesn't catch anything but he does find the gem Lv3 Angels Hand. ************************************* Time and Space Tower (Arieta Event #2) ************************************* Go to the tower and listen to all of the information and then enter it for 15 Elm. You will get a tour of the tower and you will find out what is so special about it. At some point in the tour Wein will notice that girl Arieta again. You have two choices at this point in the game. - Talk to her. - Snub her (Choose) If you talk to her you will notice that she is a little on the mean side. Wein doesn't think anything of it but if you want her as a secret character you must have at least witnessed the scene. The reason that you Snub her is to keep Charlone's friendship from decreasing. Although, it is very possible to get Charlone's ending and this one event is not going to make or break you. ************************************* Grandshill ************************************* In Grandshill you can speak with your companions as well as gather information. There are a lot of people to speak with in this town. If you speak with the Arena Fan he will give you Story #4. Besides the story that is the only thing of importance here because the shops are being remodeled and are closed. Come back later and the shops will be open for business. After leaving Grandshill, stop at South Rachel and a Student will tell you that the ruins are off limits. If you went by the Time and Space tower and took the tour then he will thank you and give you Story #6. Don't worry about the order because you will get number 5 after visiting the academy. Visit the Control Facility Ruins and Charlone will make a comment and her fondness of you will increase slightly (although it may not appear right away). Start by getting information. A student at the academy would like to see the manuscript talking about Professor Ariost. The Xenobiologist will tell you about a cat creature. This cat person will play an important role in the near future. Make sure that you talk to the Braided girl as well because she is important in getting another Characters ending. After talking to everyone, go to the Magic Academy Library. You will turn over the Marauders Remains, speak with Karene and get Max's books. As you are leaving the Academy Max's messenger will tell you to meet Max north of Agriss village. In preparation for what's ahead, purchase two Lv3 Quickness gems. Charlone doesn't have the Dash technique so you are going to need to make her quick two missions from now. Exit and head back toward Agriss to meet with Max. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 07 ~Meeting with Max~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As soon as you enter North Grandshill you and your companions notice something wrong. It appears that someone has been following you. It's the cat woman that the Xenobiologist was talking about. She has set a trap and now you must battle your way out. Follow the instructions carefully now because this is the beginning of her quest. If you complete this quest you will receive a very nice gem and you will unlock EXTRA #4 after the game is beaten. ============================================================================== | Mission 05: Feline Fascination (Cat Girl Quest #1) | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Enemies Destroyed Wein Destroyed | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 4 Imp x2 Level 6 Bone Golem x2 | | Level 4 Giant Bat | | Level 5 Will o' Wisp | | Level 6 Bone Golem x5 | | Level 7 Werecat | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Do not defeat the Werecat last ========== Start by having Wein use Dash and Bait while Hans attacks the Bone Golem nearest Wein. Charlone should cast Attack Up on Wein then Hans and then attack the Imp on the left (your left) side of the Werecat. Charlone's job after this is healing because Wein and Hans will take damage. It is best at this point to gang up on each enemy because the Werecat tends to heal whichever monster is injured. Don't worry about Hans or Charlone getting hit because the focus is on Wein. Once most of the enemies at the start of the battle are defeated, have Hans go after the Werecat. The Werecat is still focused on Wein so Hans will be able to attack freely. Once the Werecat calls for reinforcements, have Hans use Bait. This will cause all of the monsters to focus on him. If the Werecat isn't defeated by then Wein will finish the job while she is distracted. After she is defeated she runs away but this isn't the last that you'll see of her. ************************************* Cat Girl Quest #2 ************************************* After the Feline Fascination battle go back to the Magic academy and speak with the Xenobiologist to tell him that you've seen the Cat-girl. Once that is finished go to South Rachel where a scene will take place. Wein has the feeling that he is being watched and he must do something. - Shout "Stop hiding and show yourself!" - Ask "What do you want?" - Shout "Are you from the Academy?" (Must visit Academy) - Ignore the feeling and move on. If you didn't go to the Academy before this then the third choice will not appear. Select "Are you from the Academy?" and a scene showing the Werecat will follow. After the scene say yes to giving her a name if you see her again and then move on. ************************************* Agriss Village ************************************* Talk to the Field Worker and she will give you Story #5 just for talking to Karene. Now you should have stories 1-6, only 9 more to go. After that continue toward the Upstream Dam where Max is waiting for you. This would be a good time to equip Charlone with at least 2 Level 3 Quickness gems. With these two gems equipped my Charlone had a move of 214, which was higher than that of Wein and Hans. After the events at the dam you find yourself trapped on all sides by Rolandian Soldiers. Your only way out is to escape because fighting them would mean an act of war. Charlone is much slower than Hans and Wein so until she gets close to the exit you shouldn't leave. Of course if you gave her the two Lv3 Quickness gems like I suggested, she will be the fastest of the three. Start by having Charlone move along a path that goes out to the left avoiding the rocks and then down toward the bottom of the screen. Wein should move to the left and then down while Hans waits until the soldier at the bottom is busy chasing Charlone. Once Wein goes down a bit, have him start casting Cure and heal Hans who will get injured a little bit. Don't worry about Charlone because she won't take much damage at all. Hans should begin to move south around the rocks and then make a right. Once the reinforcements arrive, have Hans use Bait and then make a circle around the center rocks continuing in that direction. Every Soldier on the battlefield is now after Hans leaving Charlone and Wein to do as they please. Even though it could be easy to escape now, continue healing using Wein and start healing with Charlone also. Finally when the final Soldier appears, have Wein use Dash and Bait and then run toward the northern part of the map. Hans will be free to leave at his leisure as will Charlone. After they regroup, Charlone will vent and Wein says... Charlone... - I apologize for getting you into this. (Choose) - (If she talks it out, maybe she'll feel better.) - How is this my fault? After meeting Xenos Charlone will comment on how with his help it should be no problem to clear their names. Once again you must respond favorably to get Charlone to like you. - That sounds great! (Choose) - I told you not to worry! - (She's so selfish...what about Karene?) Afterwards, Xenos agrees to join you and together you set out to clear your names. Xenos is also concerned with Karene because she is his sister. Before you do that there are a couple of things that can be done. First, you can change Xenos' title from Swordsman to Champion Swordsman by selecting the option, "Confer with Xenos". Besides changing his title it increases his friendship as well. Xenos should now be at 9 bars. After speaking to Xenos in Grandshill, make another visit to the Magic Academy. This visit will help you to get the ending of a character that you have yet to meet. Talk to the Braided Girl and you will find out that her name is Misha. Afterwards confer with Xenos and then go to the Time and Space Tower. At the Time and space Tower, you will get to talk with Xenos for the third time. After talking, take a look at Xenos' status and you will notice that his friendship bar is now full. Afterwards head north of Agriss to the Border Mountain Interior to find Karene. I also suggest giving the two Lv3 Quickness gems to Wein for this mission. ============================================================================== | Mission 07: Hostage | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Rescue Karene from the Mountain Cave Get too close to Karene | | Xenos is Defeated | | Hans is Defeated | | Wein is Defeated | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 6 Archer x2 None | | Level 8 Fencer x2 | | Level 8 Spearman | | Level 6 Magician | | Level 10 Battalion Commander | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat all enemies and Rescue Karene. ========== Start the battle by having Wein move close to Xenos. Xenos will formulate a plan but he needs Hans to put on an act for it to work. After speaking to Xenos, move Wein near Hans to relay the plan. Hans will then run away but don't worry because he's coming back. Next, move Wein toward Hans. After the plan is relayed you can kill off Xenos but that will result in a failed mission. This is a good time to waste time because you can have Wein run around the shrub at the bottom near Hans making Xenos chase you. Run toward the Mercenaries but don't worry because they will warn you that you are too close. Have Wein use Cure and then have Charlone begin to cast Attack Up. After Hans leaves the screen, he will return after about 3 rounds. The Mercenaries will attack but just hold on and defend until Hans returns. After Hans jumps down between Karene and the Spearman, Xenos will join your team again. Have Charlone use Attack Up at the highest level on Hans and have Hans use System Shock on the Spearman. The goal for this next part is to take out the Spearman so use Dash with Wein to close the distance quickly and take him out. Keep in mind that if you didn't equip the Lv3 Quickness gems on Wein, you will just have to use him to heal. Xenos' job is to protect Charlone by going after the Fencer on the left. After the Spearman near Hans is defeated, have Hans take out the Magician and then the Battalion Commander while Wein goes after the Archers. Xenos and Charlone can take care of the two Fencers. After the scene with Karene being rescued you will find yourself back in Grandshill and your names are cleared. The Yungs are much stronger than normal so you will need to have everyone except Charlone use Dash and focus on one Yung at a time. I go after the left one and use techniques like System Shock to avoid wasting time. Charlone is in this battle as a support role and one of the ways that she can support her comrades is to cast Cycle Up on Hans and Shield on the other two. After Wein's first attack on the Yung have him go after the Demi Yung on the right. His HP might be low so don't hesitate to have him use Cure. Yungs are incredibly slow so Hans can take care of the right one by himself. After he is finished, he should target the only remaining Demi Yung. The next part is crucial to winning because you are going to need to protect the villagers coming from the right but you don't want to kill all of the Yungs until they are safely in the Hut. Use Xenos to block the Yung coming from the left while Hans and Wein take care of the ones on the right. By this time Charlone was out of magic and helping so I had Wein just use Cure for the remainder of the battle. The reason why is because Arieta will appear and wreak havoc with her spells. Arieta can be hit by magic but you should just leave her alone and focus on making sure that the villagers are all safe. Once the last villager is inside, the Brave Woman will let you know. Kill the final Yung and you have a Mission Complete. In case your wondering, you can wound Arieta but she does not factor in to the Mission Complete condition. After the battle concludes and sometime during the next story event, Wein must make a decision about whether or not Riviera can join them. Everyone agrees that she should come along but it's your choice. (What do we do?) - I think we can protect her well enough. - We can't guarantee her safety (Choose) - It's too dangerous to consider Now that you have Riviera it's time to go back and visit the towns that you have previously visited to collect more stories and build friendships. In the Village of Agriss where you will currently be after the battle, you can speak with Riviera and Confer with Xenos. Speaking with Riviera will increase your friendship with her. Do not go to the Border Mountain Interior because if you do you will miss out on your opportunity to get Ernest. ************************************* South Lost Forest (Ernest Event #2) ************************************* Visit the South Lost Forest where Wein, Charlone and Hans will try to convince Ernest to join them. In response Ernest will say... What, shall we bow and acknowledge you a Growlanser? - I will be called Growlanser (Choose) - You can call me that if you like - That's not appropriate - I'm not even in that league You must choose the first choice in order for Ernest to join you later on in the game. Of course I had heard that the second choice is adequate as well but haven't verified it personally. Before continuing on to the next section, I suggest equipping Hans with a ring that has a level 8 slot and equipping the Lv8 Hyper-Attack gem. ************************************* Upstream Dam and the Border ************************************* This is your last chance before moving on with the game to earn points with Riviera. When she comments about the dam you respond with... - Yes, I can't believe such cruelty... - I shall find the party responsible - Your concern for your people is admirable (Choose) Before you go to the Mountain Border Interior, prepare yourself by giving Riviera the Lv3 Magic Might gem and keep the Lv4 Magic Level. Also Charlone should have a couple of Lv2 Deft Winds and an Indirect Range gem. When you arrive at the Border Mountain Interior Wein becomes ill again and must decide about Charlone's future. There's only one pill left, and Charlone needs to go to the Unicorn Knight ceremony. What now? - Stay and regain my strength - Tell Charlone to go on ahead - Press onward to Comsprings (Unicorn Knight) All three choices are fine with Charlone and no change occurs in your friendship. If you chose the first one Wein will stay and recover his strength. This is unfortunate because it will cause Charlone to miss her exam for the Unicorn Knights. If you chose the second choice then Charlone will go on ahead to take the final exam. The final choice is the most risky of the three and choosing this will move on making Wein permanently poisoned for the remainder of the trip to Comsprings. Of course by choosing the last choice Charlone will become a Unicorn Knight following this path and you will be able to get her ending. If you don't then you will miss out on many opportunities to make friends and her ending will become impossible. Before entering Comsprings, go to the Mountain Depth where you will meet a hunter who is selling an energy tonic for 40 Elm. The energy Tonic won't cure the poison if you decided to go that route but it will recover your MP. In appreciation for buying it he will give you Story #7. In preparation for the reinforcements, move Xenos next to Charlone and have Wein heal through the duration of the battle. Hans should begin to make his way toward the northwest portion of the map where the stairs are. The whole time that the battle is raging, Riviera should be casting spells at the Messenger. Another aspect of the battle that you should take note of is that Cycle Up fades pretty quickly. After Charlone has taken care of the two Battle Wizards, have her cast Cycle Up again on both Riviera and herself. After that's is done she should focus on the Archers. Once the reinforcements appear have Hans and Xenos take care of them. Before you do that take the opportunity to explore this relatively new area. There are a number of places to go and I suggest that you search them all out. In Comsprings, the first thing that you will notice is that you can speak with both of the girls and Confer with Xenos. The option to speak with Charlone will not come up unless you chose to press on to Comsprings. One other thing that players tend to miss at this point is speaking to the Woman in White. Speaking to her will help in getting the ending of a character that hasn't joined yet. In this battle you can have the same set up that you used to finish the Death Trap. This battle relies on Hans and Riviera because they are the ones that will be able to get the Yungs that run for the treasure. Getting the treasure in this mission doesn't mean that you have to get to it first. You only need to defeat the Yung after it has grabbed the treasure. First, start by having Charlone cast Cycle up and Attack Up on Hans and then Cycle Up on Riviera. Riviera will cast Stone Shot level 6 and Xenos will attack the level 14 Yung on the left. Hans' target is the level 14 Yung on the right followed by Arieta. Arieta will try to cast a spell but Hans will be able to take her out before she can do any major damage. After Xenos has dispatched the Yung, he should use Dash and move to the north to block one of the Yungs from escaping with the treasure. Riviera's job is to attack any Yungs that are out of reach and Hans should go for the Yungs on the right and take care of the one that grabbed the center chest. Remember the goal is to get the treasures meaning that you must let the Yungs get the treasures first before destroying them. Wein is poisoned and will therefore not be doing anything except casting cure. As for Charlone, don't have her attack but instead keep her casting spells. If no action is needed for her then you can always wait. After the battle Wein must decide how he can make Charlone understand the situation. If you didn't choose to press on then this option will not be available. - I'm doing you a favor - You need to keep the promise to your brother (Choose) - This is my order as Captain After leaving the Ruins you will notice that there are 4 days left. That will only be there if you chose to press on to Comsprings. There are exactly 4 spaces to the Capital so don't take any detours otherwise Charlone will not become a Unicorn Knight. You can stop and get information or talk to party members because only movement on the map decreases the time remaining. When you reach the city of Starkberg, take the time to "Speak with Hans". It's nothing much but Hans will respect you even more than he does now. If you took the route of not choosing to press on however, Hans will deliver food to the orphanage. After arriving back at the Capital, Charlone will become a Unicorn Knight and you are sent on a mission by the King to find the Imposter. To get you on your way the King gives you 2000 Elm. If you take a look at the status screen, you will notice that Charlone's friendship meter is at 10 bars. After 40 days you will get a scene showing the battlefront. 40 days after that Wolfgang will make an announcement at the Tower. As insignificant as it may seem, I recommend that you follow this section carefully so that you do not miss anything. The very first place that you will check out is the Capital. Max will discuss the peacefulness and stability of the times and what he says will be understood when you reach the end of the game. During this little flashback Max asks a question and your response is... - Yes, I see your point - I disagree - I don't see it as black and white (Choose) After the flashback scene with Max has concluded you will run into Arieta who at the time seems nice. If you decided to prepare for camp then you will get to see a seen where the group is preparing for camp. Charlone will ask... What will you do, captain? - Help Xenos (Choose) - Help Riviera Both choices don't affect your friendship with her noticeably so pick whomever you would like to help out. I wasn't sure how it affected Charlone so I just picked Xenos to be safe. There is a small scene for each of the characters that you can see for yourself by resetting the game. After you are finished here it's time to continue exploring Burnstein Kingdom. Your next stop is Schwartzfals. Before advancing to Schwartzfals, stop in the Grasslands first. ************************************* Grasslands (Arieta Event #4) ************************************* Visit the Grassland and you will find Arieta once again. This time she's not trying to kill you but she still wants you to get away from her. As you try to catch her as she runs away her wolf Sereb stops you. The Boy will tell you about an injured man in the inn and the Student that was looking for the manuscripts will give you Story #8. If you speak with Hans the two of you will enter the village to interview people and gather evidence. While in the village one of the villagers will recognize Hans as a potato thief. Hans will flatter the villager and before the two leave you will receive the "Sweet Potatoes". Now that you have investigated stay a night at the inn and you will find out some information about Wein's father. Throughout the game this man will tell you information after key events in the game. The next time that you can visit him is after Wolfgang makes his announcement. After that, talk with Hans who will visit with his friends at the orphanage and give them the Sweet Potatoes. Since the shops are looking for people to work in them their inventory will change from time to time once the spots are filled. Your final task here is to visit the Claudius Manor. After the scene with Charlone's brother, her father comes into the room and demands that she stop traveling with Wein. Wein says... I think... - Charlone had better stay here - Charlone can do as she pleases (Choose) - You need to convince your father After you leave the manor speak with Charlone and she will apologize for her father's action. You can gain more friendship points by answering correctly. If you have followed every choice up to this point and Charlone hasn't died, you are well on your way to getting her ending. - You can say that again - Don't worry about it - I'm more concerned with you (Choose) After you are finished in Starkberg, go north to the Ruins and speak to the peddler. He will tell you about Zauerberg to the east. First lets get Story #10. Go to the shop and you will notice that there is an option called Search use it and you will find a Magic Academy Student that's willing to part with it for only 20 Elm. After that you can go shopping or gather information. Talk to the Affluent Girl and she will tell you that she wants to open up a gem shop. Refer her to Starkberg (This option won't come up unless you read the sign in Starkberg) and then speak with the Suspicious Man. Agree to pay the man for his secret and he will tell you about an arena where you can win prizes. Now a new option called Go to the Secret Arena is available. The Secret Arena is a great place to get gems and other items by using Wein in a series of 1 versus 2 battles with monsters. More information on the Arena can be found at the end of the guide. One other important person that you need to speak with is the Good-Natured Aunt. Throughout the game she will tell you interesting things about the Cruz and Zauer families. One thing that you may have noticed by now is that visiting the inns sometimes unlocks different scenes. Visit the Inn now and you will get a scene in the marketplace with Charlone and Riviera. If you have Story #10 and speak with the Student they will give you Story #11 (Only 4 more to go). This is also a good time to check on the Armor Analysis being done by Ariost. Before you decide to check on the Armor Analysis make sure that you have at least 5000 Elm. When you enter Ariost's Lab he will tell you his findings he will tell you that he can find out more but he needs the money. It's 5000 Elm but by doing this you will be able to get Arieta later on (provided that you do all of the events pertaining to her). Hmmm...5,000 Elm? - That's too much to waste on a theory. - It's a bargain if your hypothesis is true! Talk to the Mine Worker, the Innkeeper's daughter and then speak with Charlone afterwards. Now it's time to search out the culprit. Talk to Xenos again and he will mention that the girl he recognized was hospitalized in Lyell's rehabilitation clinic. While here you may want to do some shopping. There are some good gems for sale like the Lv5 Empower. Go to Clain Village and a new option called Go to Mysterious Mansion will be available. If it's not available just speak to the Village Chief. Enter the mansion and you will find the man responsible for starting the war. He also tells you who hired him. Congratulations, you have completed your Investigation. If you didn't see any scenes up to this point, then both of them will occur one after the other. The only thing left now is to return to the Capital but I wouldn't be so quick because there are a number of optional things to do at this point. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 12 ~Optional Stuff and the Wolfgang Announcement~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Before you return to the castle to tell the king what you have found out during your investigation, take the time to completely explore the game. In this section we will complete the requirements to get Arieta to join, pursue the Cat Girl, and even get an offer from Wolfgang to join his band of mercenaries. We will get the minor stuff out of the way first. Start by going to Burnstein Capital and speaking to the Senior Officer. For finding out the person responsible for starting the war, the Senior Officer will give you Story #12. After that three optional battles await you. If your goal is to just get to the end then skip this section. If you want to get everything in the game, this optional section is very important. After getting story #12, go south to Clain Village and make your way to Rottenbaum. The only real thing to do in Rottenbaum is to refer the Starving Boy to the shopping district in Starkberg. The boy is good at making armor and as you progress through the game he will create better and better armor. Next you are going to go north to Schwartzfals. Make sure that you are prepared because this is the first of the optional battles. The setup is pretty much the same as the Death Trap Mission with the exception of giving Charlone the Lv4 Dispel gem, Hans Lv2 Deft Wind and Xenos Lv3 Quickness gems. ============================================================================== | Optional Mission 01: Rural Raid (Arieta Event #6) | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Enemies Defeated All Villagers Destroyed | | Wein Defeated | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 14 Yung x2 None | | Level 16 Yung x2 | | Level 17 Yung x2 | | Level 20 Mysterious Girl | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat Arieta before you she unlocks the ========== storage and don't let any villagers die You need to close the distance quick in this battle because it's only a matter of time before Arieta gets to the Storeroom. Start out by having Wein, Hans and Xenos use Dash and then go after the level 16 Yungs. Charlone should cast Cycle Up and Attack Up on those three and Cycle Up only on Riviera while Riviera casts magic like Stone Shot to take out the level 14 Yungs before they can finish off the villagers. Throughout the battle it's a good idea to make sure that you are Cycled Up. Once the level 16 and 17 Yungs are destroyed Hans can focus on Arieta. Even though Arieta is at a higher elevation he can still hit her. After the battle Arieta will try to confuse Wein. You only get the option if you stopped her from escaping. Wein must respond... But...! - I'm positive you're not Arieta! (Choose) - A...are you the real Arieta? - Well, that's another way of looking at this. After this, head to Starkberg for the second optional battle. This next optional battle has to do with the Cat Girl Quest. Before you leave, stay at the Inn and the injured man will tell you more about your father. You need to do this in order to fight an extra battle later in the game. Once you arrive in Starkberg talk to the New Guard (He only appears if you have been following the Cat Girl Quest) and he will tell you about strange noises coming from the West. Go to the Ruins west of Starkberg and investigate. Do not skip this if you hope to finish the Cat Girl Quest because if you do it will not be available later on. ============================================================================== | Optional Mission 02: Feline Fascination (Cat Girl Quest #3) | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Enemies Destroyed Any party member destroyed | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 6 Bone Golem None | | Level 17 Piranhatazoa x2 | | Level 17 Reptilian x2 | | Level 18 Armor Crab x2 | | Level 18 Werecat | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat all of the monsters without the aid ========== of the spiked wall In this mission you're main problem will be the closing in spiked wall. Although it would seem like you need to hit the switch to stop the wall you don't. Make sure Hans still has that Lv8 Hyper Attack gem and then use System Shock on the Lizard Man at the bottom right. It should finish him but just to be safe have Xenos attack it as well. Once it is defeated have Hans attack the top Lizard Man and Riviera use Lv6 Fire Arrow to take out the two Piranhatazoa with a level of 3 each. Wein and Xenos should both use Dash having Wein use System Shock on the middle Reptilian and Xenos attacking the right one. After the right one is finished, Xenos will take care of the middle one and then the Werecat. Charlone should Cycle Up Hans and then Attack Up level 3. After Wein has taken care of the middle Reptilian, he should focus on the Werecat. When Wein gets close he will speak to her and the mission will continue. With Hans' work done on the left Reptilian, he should make his way to the top of the ruins area to finish off the Armor Crabs. You do not want Charlone to attack in this battle, only magic because her recovery is way too slow. After Riviera has taken care of the two Piranhatazoas she should cast a level 3 Fire Arrow to take care of the Bone Golem before it gets crushed by the wall. After the Werecat get defeated you will have a choice of what to do. These choices will only come up if you spoke to the Werecat during the battle. - Ask to give her a name - Ask her to be friends (Choose) - Let her go ************************************* Magic Academy (Arieta Event #7) ************************************* After the battle return to Starkberg and tell the guard what you found in the ruins. If you want to make sure that you don't get Arieta, never do this step and make a save file so that you can return to this point in the game without having to play through. Your next stop will be the Magic Academy again to get the device from Ariost (If you agreed to pay the 5000 Elm). Ariost has successfully proved his hypothesis and you will receive the "Neural Device". The Neural Device is the piece of equipment that will be necessary in obtaining Arieta as a playable character. ************************************* Grasslands (Arieta Event #8) ************************************* This is the final Arieta Event, go back to the Grasslands where Sereb will meet Wein alone and discuss Arieta's behavior. After answering Sereb will tell you about Gevas and his relationship with Arieta. As a favor Sereb wants you to kill Arieta to stop Gevas. Sereb will say, "In the last encounter with Arieta, didn't it seem like she was two different people?" Wein responds... - I don't want to think it was her - So it's as I suspected (Choose) - I'm still not sure After you are done with the Grasslands, I suggest making a separate save file because this is where you will get the choice to join Wolfgang and embark on a whole new side of the story or refuse him and play through the normal story mode. ************************************* Southern Checkpoint (Ernest Event #3) ************************************* You can go here only after Wolfgang has made his announcement to the world. It is time based so it may or may not happen at the exact point that you are in the walkthrough. One thing that you may want to take note of is that this is where the story branches off and making a separate save file here would be beneficial incase you want to play both parts of the story without starting over. If you didn't find the culprit responsible for smashing the dam then Wolfgang will not ask you to join him. (What shall I do?) - Steadfastly refuse - Give Wolfgang a chance... The choice is yours. If you refuse or did not do all of the events pertaining to Wolfgang you will take on Optional Mission 03. If you give him a chance, then go down to the Wolfgang portion of the walkthrough. Start by having Wein cast Attack Up level 3 on Hans; Charlone cast Cycle Up on Hans and then Riviera. The Magicians can only be hit by magic so Riviera should take care of that by casting Stone Shot level at the highest level available. It may take 5 or 6 levels to take one down depending on your INT. Xenos should use Dash and attack the Spearman near Charlone while Hans takes the Spearman near Riviera. After Hans has taken out that Spearman, have him work on the Fencer near Wein followed by the Commander. Wein should cast Cure after the Attack Up has been cast and Charlone should do the same or cast Attack Magic to help Riviera finish off the Magicians. After Riviera is finished with the Magicians just have her begin to cast another attack spell at the highest level. This will be for the reinforcements that arrive later in the battle. After Hans has taken care of the Commander he can help out Xenos and then attack one of the reinforcements once they arrive. The other one can be taken out by Riviera's magic. Once the battle is over return to the Burnstein Capital Castle. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 13 ~Deliver the Letter to the Front Lines~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- After entering the Castle you will meet Carmaine and get your new assignment from the King. With six party members the battles will get a bit easier but there will also be more enemies during the random battles as well. The king will give you 10000 Elm and your assignment is to deliver the letter to the front. Just like during the Real Criminal Investigation, you are going to want to investigate everything. Lucky for you I have done all the legwork. Since Carmaine is a new character, you are going to need to get his friendship up. If you have been following this guide you will get his ending because a number of scenes that happened early in the game were needed to get his friendship up. In Burnstein Capital, begin by speaking to Riviera. That will raise her friendship level. After that gather information and talk to the Pink-haired Girl. This is important because talking to her now will open up some more decisions for Carmaine later in the game. Finally, go to the shop and you will get a scene in the shopping district. After the party disperses Wein will notice that Riviera is alone. Wein says... Riviera? - Try getting her attention (Choose) - She just needs some time alone - Butt Out If you selected the first choice then you will get to ask a follow up question. What's wrong Riviera? - Are you meeting your sister? - Aren't you going with the others? (Choose) After you have finished up in Burnstein your next stop is Clain. In Clain you will see the option to Converse with Carmaine. Converse with him and then go to Rottenbaum to continue with the Cat Girl Quest. ************************************* Rottenbaum (Cat Girl Quest #4) ************************************* Speak to the Angry Farmer and he will tell you that his potato fields have been raided and that he will stay up late to catch the thief. This looks like an opportunity to do some investigating on your own. Stay at the inn and a scene will take place during the night. You notice the Catgirl running off being chased by the angry farmer. Now that you have done this it's time to find her. If you didn't do the previous Werecat events then this one will not occur. Your next stop is the village of Schwartzfals. ************************************* Schwartzfals (Cat Girl Quest #5) ************************************* Only if you went to Rottenbaum first for Cat girl Quest #4 will you be able to do this step. If you look on the options for the town you will notice that you have a new choice called "To Treasure Storehouse" Enter to find the Werecat. When you run into her you will get three choices for a question. - Who is your friend? - Does it belong to you? (Choose) - Can I give you a new name yet? If you chose the middle question then Wein will get a follow up question. - So, why don't you have a name? (Choose) - Can we help you look for your mother? After choosing the second correct question a mysterious glowing skeleton will appear. The monster threatens to kill you if you interfere further but letting it go is not an option anymore seeing that you've already invested so much time to this quest in the first place. Before leaving Schwartzfals talk to the Student and she will give you Story #13. You may also want to take a look at the shop here because they have upgraded their inventory as well. Make sure that you grab the Lv6 New Horizons for Hans. With this gem, Hans will have unlimited range. After changing your equipment take a look at the options. You will notice Go to Claudius Mansion and Check the City at Night. The Check the City at Night option will only appear if you have been following the Cat Girl and the Claudius Mansion choice is only available if you made Charlone a Unicorn Knight. First, Check the City at night to continue the Cat Girl Quest and set up an optional battle in the near future. The last thing is to go to the Claudius Mansion. This is the third time you have been to Charlone's house and by visiting you may see one of two different scenes. If you have followed this guide and chosen the choices presented to you, you will get a scene with Charlone coming out of her brothers room. The other scene is one with Riviera. If you get the Riviera scene then you will not get a certain event later. Riviera's scene is a result of your friendship with her being much higher than Charlone's. Even though your friendship meters have 10 bars each it does not mean that they are equal because the friendships for the characters go beyond 10. After that Wein will have a dream about Arieta. This is the last time that you will see anything to do with Arieta for a little while. The next morning if you go to the ruins west of Starkberg, you can investigate to find that the mask in the ruins is now missing. After going to North Starkberg the party will stop for the night and campout. At the start Carmaine will laugh and Wein must decide how to react. (He just laughed, I think...) - Did I give bad directions? - What's the matter? (Choose) - Laughing at people is rude! If you entered Claudius Mansion before doing this you will get an extra scene afterwards with Charlone. This is important because it will increase your friendship with her. If you skipped the Mansion until later then I suggest that you reload the game and do it before doing this. Next get ready for the fourth optional mission. Start by having Wein cast Attack Up on Hans while Charlone and Carmaine cast Cycle Up on Hans and Riviera. Xenos can go after the Gargoyle on the left but he isn't really needed in this battle as long as Hans has the Lv6 New Horizons (Which I suggested that you purchase). Riviera should cast Ice Barrage level 6 on her first turn. The Ice Barrage spell at three levels each will be used to take care of the Piranhatazoas. After Charlone casts her first spell, cast Cure to heal the Werecat. After Hans has finished off the Litch, he can take out the Gargoyles. Remember that this strategy is assuming Hans is the one with the Lv8 Hyper-Attack gem equipped. The only enemies left after the Gargoyles should be the two Hellhounds. Those will be dealt with by using Ice Barrage Magic. The main reason for this battle is to gain the trust of Storm#3. To do that, the monsters must hit her and you must heal her sometime during the fight. By gaining her trust she will give you "Lv9 Transport Wings" gem. Once you can equip both the Lv8 Hyper-Attack and the Lv9 Transport Wings on Hans the game will seem ridiculously easy. As for the Werecat this is the last time you see her for a while. ************************************* Finally, Delivering the letter ************************************* It's time to go forward to deliver the letter to the front lines. There are a few stops along the way but no more battles. First go east to Zauerberg and talk to the Good-natured Aunt. She will tell you more about the Zauer and Cruz families. After you are done there, go to Comsprings. There are a number of things to do in Comsprings. First, talk to Irene again. If you didn't speak to her on the previous occasions then she will not be there. As Wein tells her the good news she will recognize Carmaine. If you speak with Riviera then you will get an interesting choice when she asks... Do you wish to bathe in the hot springs together? - Are you kidding? Yes! - Please don't tempt me (Choose) After that, go north to Valmie. Speak to the Innkeepers daughter first and afterwards a new choice to Speak with Carmaine will appear. Speak with Carmaine and he will say something else mysterious not that he isn't mysterious already. Finally on your way to the front lines, Carmaine will stop at the Magic Academy. Carmaine will remember that the Magic Academy and its people were very helpful and that he owes them a debt of gratitude. He says his sister trained here and talks about Misha (This will only come up if you spoke to Misha previously). Wein responds by saying... - Isn't Louise your sister? - Is Misha the girl with pigtails? - She has a strong demeanor. (Choose) After responding to Carmaine, gather information and talk to Misha. After that, go to North Grandshill to deliver the letter. Right before Wein leaves max stops him and begins to talk about peace. Max then asks the question... Is that so hard to understand? - No, I understand your despair - There is always another way (Choose) - Leadership is the key to peace, Max Once you are finished confer with Xenos and Maximillian. The Campaign won't start until you choose the option "Start Campaign". When you are ready to join the campaign select "Join the Campaign". Since this is a guide to get everything, your first stop is Comsprings. ************************************* The Brooch Event ************************************* If you talk to Charlone in Comsprings, Wein will tell her that he wants to investigate with her but she says that she is busy. Afterwards a scene occurs with Charlone in town. You will not get this scene if you spent the night at Charlone's and got the Riviera scene. Wein is exploring the town and notices her at the shops. What? Charlone at the shop... - I'll go and talk to her (Choose) - I'll wait her and see what she does - It's really none of my business If you decide to talk to her then she will ask you for your opinion. Talking to her ids the best choice if you are trying to get her to like you a lot. Let me see... - This bird's shape is exquisite - This bird would look good on you (Choose) - This dolphin is exquisite - This dolphin would look good on you (Choose) - Neither is really you, Charlone After choosing the jewelry for her she will ask ...so, does it look alright on me? - It looks great (Choose) - Well... - Maybe you should have bought the other... ************************************* The Unicorn Knights Training ************************************* Once you touch Burnstein Capital Charlone will run into Imperial Knight Julia (provided that she is a Unicorn Knight). After speaking with her a new option to watch the military drill appears. It doesn't seem to affect her friendship with Wein and you get to see more of the game that you might otherwise miss out on. I am guessing that to get this scene your friendship with her must be at a high level. After you are done with that event return to North Grandshill to begin the next mission. This fight is an ambush just as you thought and to get through it you will not only need to reach the other side but you will also need to keep the transport animals alive. Have all of the males use Dash and then run ahead to different areas of the battlefield. Charlone should cast Attack Up on all of the guys and then cast Ice Barrage. Have Carmaine use Cycle Up on every one and Riviera start casting her highest level of Blast. Even if it tells you that you can cast the spell, just wait. After the animals reach a certain point two Archers will appear. Kill them quickly and then advance a little farther. A Spearman will appear on the right, take him out and continue leading the animals. A little farther and another Spearman appears on the left side. I had Wein covering that side so it was no problem. Once the Battalion Commander and the three magicians appear use Riviera's Blast Magic on the three magicians. You can gather information, speak to Riviera or do some shopping. This is a good time to change your equipment. Place Lv6 Quickness gem on Wein as well as one of the Hyper-Attacks either Lv6 or 8. The extra attacks will be helpful for the next mission as well as the speed. Go to South Grandshill after you are finished but not before picking up Ernest or a special item. ************************************* Tippi's Diary and Getting Ernest ************************************* Make sure that you stop by the East Lost Forest because by checking this location you will receive "Tippi's Diary". It's not one of the manuscripts that the editor is looking for, but you can get it read at the Magic Academy. When we are able to return there we will do just that. After you have the Diary, This would be another ideal spot to save your game because here you will get Ernest or Brett. Go to the South Lost Forest for the final scene for Ernest. If you don't get Ernest then you will get another character named Brett shortly. If you didn't do the previous 3 Ernest events then you will also not get him as a playable character. After Wein speaks about helping Burnstein, Ernest turns his back. Wein must make a decision now. ... - Give up quietly - Fight for it (Choose) You won't actually have to fight. Just making this decision will be adequate enough to convince Ernest that you are serious. If you don't have Cycle Up, Attack Up should suffice. All of these will allow you to easily get the jump on the enemies. After about 7 enemies are destroyed a condition gets added to the completion. If you escape to the upper left of the map you will escape as well. Of course getting a Mission Complete means doing more than the minimum so just continue the assault. Make sure you use Dash a second time if it runs out that way you won't be too slow. If you got Ernest then a scene with him and Carmaine occurs right after this battle. ************************************* Time and Space Tower ************************************* Once you get to the tower the group will notice Arieta entering. Following her into the tower the group begins to investigate this matter before moving on. Go to the Landing and a scene will take place where the tower begins to rise. If you didn't get Ernest then you will receive Brett as a new character. Another thing that you must take note of is that the next mission will have different objectives depending on how many Arieta Events you did prior. If you did them all then she will be able to be saved. If you are on the path to Save Arieta, equip Wein with two level 6 Quickness gems. If not then you will want to have all your fighters with the lv6 Hyper-Attack gem. Carmaine should cast Cycle Up on the rest of your group while Charlone Casts support magic like Shield and Attack Up. If Hans has the New Horizon gem then you will be able to hit everything in the room. Xenos and Ernest can take the Yungs on the left while Riviera casts Cure magic throughout. After Wein goes up the stairs you must wait until Arieta is saved before killing Gevas. Once Arieta is saved, you can kill Gevas to get a Mission Complete. I mainly used Hans to kill everything on the right because of his low ATW and his range and let Ernest and Xenos go after the Yungs on the left side. Because you have saved Arieta you will not be able to get Sereb. Now that the battle with Gevas is over, you will notice that the Tower's location has moved. This is real easy to skip and doing so you will lose out on the opportunity to increase his friendship. Once you are finished at the tower head to the grassland where a scene with Arieta takes place (provided that you saved her). If you were able to save Arieta then a scene will occur and the field where she is remembering. As she continues to talk Wein interrupts. Arieta... - It's my nature to help others - I'll take all the thanks you can give! - You helped as much as I did - I wanted to help you (Choose) After exiting the Grasslands make a stop in Starkberg. When you arrive in Starkberg, the option to go to the Claudius Mansion is available once more. This time her father is waiting and he seems pissed. It must have been the whole running off with Wein to fight thing. After her father expresses his opinion about woman and war Wein responds by saying... - I completely agree. - But...that's prejudiced! (Choose) ************************************* Valmie - Story #14 (Ernest Only) ************************************* Only if you have Ernest in your party can you get Story #14 by talking to the Innkeepers daughter. If you didn't get Ernest then you are going to need to play through again to get him. After you are done speaking to the Innkeepers daughter a new option to speak with Lyell becomes available. This will increase his friendship. Go to the Magic Academy from here to read Tippi's Diary and then return to Burnstein Capital. If you want to get a few gems then you can take on the Secret Arena in Zauerberg before returning to the Capital. Before you return to the Capital the friendship bars for all of your characters should be at 10 except Carmaine who is at 9 and Ernest who is at 8. ************************************* Burnstein Capital ************************************* When you arrive at Burnstein Ernest requests that he come in disguise and that you give him a new name. He suggests Jack but you have other choices. Once you reach the Village of Clain, Stay in the Inn and you will get to see a scene where Hans finds out who the killer was of the former Village Chief. It's not necessary but it is some background information that you may find interesting. It's also another mystery solved. After Clain, visit the Ruins northwest of Rottenbaum to gain some more points with Arieta and then stay at the In Schwartzfals to hear the rest of the story from the injured man. After he tells you this information he will be gone. After you are finished with the mansion, take a look at what's new in the Gem Shop. Once you are finished looking, go to the ruins west of Starkberg and Arieta / Sereb will tell you about the missing mask. Apparently the mask is important and there is concern that it may have fallen into the wrong hands. But who could be so sinister to steal it? Your next location after the ruins is Zauerberg. ************************************* Zauerberg (Cat Girl Quest #7) ************************************* Now it's time to finish up the Cat Girl Quest. Begin by speaking with the Gentle Uncle and he will inquire about your Lv9 Transport Wings gem. When he asks where you got it you must answer honestly. - I defeated a monster. - I got it from a cat girl. (Correct) - I'll never tell After that you will meet another cat person. This cat person is Storm#3's mother and by showing her the rare gem you will prove that you have met her daughter. After exchanging stories, leave town and go to South Starkberg where you will find Storm#3. After you have told her where her parents are return to Zauerberg and Visit Luga at the Inn. In return for reuniting the family you will receive Sandra's Story. Sandra's story is a mini game that appears in the Extra Menu. Be prepared before entering Comsprings because a battle is coming up. ============================================================================== | Mission 14: Comsternation | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Enemy Defeated 3 Civilians Destroyed | | Logan Destroyed | | Wein Destroyed | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 18 Mysterious Soldier x3 Level 18 Mysterious Soldier x4| | Level 19 Mysterious Soldier x3 | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat all enemies and do not let any of ========== Logan's troops or Civilians die This fight is easy to win because Hans should have unlimited range at this point but the key to getting a Mission Complete is to kill the Armored Soldiers but not too quickly. Start by having Arieta move to the space where Ernest is and then cast Blizzard at the highest level using Quicken Aria. The Blizzard spell is important because later in the fight you will be able to take out multiple Armored Soldiers. Wein and Ernest should use the Dash skill and get to the northwestern part of town in preparation for the three Armored Soldier reinforcements while Xenos goes to the bottom of the stairs to take care of the one that will appear there. Riviera needs to start casting Blast at the highest level while Carmaine uses Cycle Up on everybody one at a time and Charlone casts Attack Up on your fighting characters and Shield on Logan. Like I said at the start, damage the soldiers till they are nearly dead and then kill them. It's OK to kill the ones going toward Logan but make sure that the ones near the exit are highly damaged. After about 5 of the Armored Soldiers are killed the rest will begin to flee. If you can finish them all off and prevent Logan and his troops from getting killed, you will receive a Mission Complete. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | 18 ~Tracking Down the Enemy~ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Now that you have saved Comsprings you need to visit Ariost's Lab. Before you do that take some more time to explore and raise the friendship amongst your party and Wein. First if you speak to Logan in town he will ask you to walk with him. Choose to do so and he will tell you more about why he was in Comsprings in the first place. The last option under Gather Information is to look for information in the city. This will get you a small scene with Ernest and will increase your friendship with him. Stay in the Hot Springs Inn and you will get a scene with Carmaine after where he tells you about a peephole into the female hot spring. When asked if he would like to try Wein responds Well... - What are we waiting for? - I don't think so. (Choose) - I don't really like women. After the Hot Springs question, go back to Starkberg because the Armor Shop has now upgraded as well. The Armor shop is similar to the on in Starkberg but the Gem shop has quite a few different gems from the other two shops that have changed their inventory. One gem in particular that you may want is the Mage Slaughter since the next mission is Mage heavy or some Metal Killer gems for an upcoming mission. Of course if you really want to be cheap, go to Valmie and purchase Lv4 Dispel gems until you have 8 of them. After you have looked at what's for sale go to Ariost's Lab. Carmaine and Arieta / Sereb will accompany you. After Wein explains the situation Ariost says that a detector device would be perfect for what you are trying to do. Afterward you will be granted entry into the ruins to the north to retrieve the Antenna Device. Before you leave the Magic Academy speak to the Student and they will give you Story #15. Of course the student isn't willing to give it up unless you tell him the name of Ariost's mother. - Anna - Canna - Nina (Correct) - Tina After you are done go to the ruins to the north of the Magic Academy. Equip everyone with Lv4 Dispel Gem and Make sure that Hans has the Lv9 Transport Wings equipped prior to entry. ============================================================================== | Mission 15: Rotten Luck | ============================================================================== | | | Complete Conditions Game over Conditions | | ===================== ===================== | | Enemy Destroyed Party Members Fall through Floor | | Antenna Retrieved Antenna Not Retrieved | | Wein Destroyed | | | | Enemies Reinforcements | | ======= ============== | | Level 20 Spook x4 None | | Level 23 Spectre x5 | | Level 21 Gargoyle x2 | | Level 25 Misery Golem | ============================================================================== ========== |Strategy| Mission Complete - Defeat all enemies without letting anyone ========== die If you did the Werecat Quest and obtained the Lv9 Transport Wings gem this mission will be a breeze. If not it will still be a breeze because every enemy except for the Misery Golem and the Gargoyles attack using Magic. The problem with this mission is that the floor rots so the only party members that will be moving are Wein, Hans, and Ernest. Of course Hans doesn't need to move if you have the Lv9 Transport Wings gem but this strategy is the non-cheap way if you want to call it that. Start by having Ernest Dash to the left and destroy the Gargoyle while Wein takes the one on the right. Hans can go either way. After the Gargoyles are destroyed, have the two fighters take their respective sides and have Hans go up the middle. Riviera, Charlone and Arieta/Sereb can use Magic to take out the enemies as well. Using this strategy you may have noticed that the enemy used no magic. If you wanted to you could just stay on the safe spot and win the battle using magic only but the problem is that the game doesn't tell you of the fourth game over condition. The fourth one is being cut off, which means you have to let someone out in order to win. After you have completed the mission you will receive the Antenna. Return to the Magic Academy to give the Antenna to Ariost. He will make the Neural Wave Radar out of it. ************************************* Seeking out the Enemy by Radar ************************************* When you get to Comsprings a scene with Riviera will take place. This may have a lot to do with her friendship with Wein so you may or may not get it. If you decide to Tour the Business district you will run into Imperial Knight Reaves. This event and the following will only occur if Ernest is in your party. If you tour the Business District again then you will get to talk to Ernest this time. Doing this will increase your friendship with him. After leaving Comsprings, go to Starkberg. You should have all 15 Stories by now so talk to the Editor and read the Manuscripts. For turning them all in you will get #16. This is all there is to collecting the stories so read them all to find out what happened previous to the events of this game. Finally it's off to your next mission. Go to the ruins north of Starkberg. When you reach the ruins to the north of Starkberg, use the Neural Wave Radar and you will find out that you are right on top of the source. When you arrive you will indeed find the culprits. If you have the Transport Wings gem then this fight is no problem. Carmaine will mention that letting one of them escape is advantageous. Have Charlone use Attack Up on Hans and then have Carmaine Cycle Up everyone beginning with Hans. To get a Mission Complete you must finish off every enemy. Arieta and Riviera will cast spells the entire battle. Hans should go after the Spearman closest to him, Xenos goes after the Spearman near Riviera, Ernest takes the Archer at the top and Wein takes the Commander. After Hans has finished off the spearman he should go after the Archer at the bottom and then the Neural Armor with the black boxes. You can fight the Armored Soldiers on the upper portion of the map if you want but by doing so you'll run the risk of death. Destroy the four black boxes and the mercenaries to get a mission complete. (Choose) - What? - They're right, You know. I am a catch. Another great thing about returning to Starkberg is that the Armor and Gem shops have upgraded again. Take a look and buy what you need. If you go to W Clain Village and use the Neural Wave Radar, you will find a soldier that will drop "Lv9 Mage's Aria" gem after fleeing. Afterwards, go to NW Rottenbaum Village. That is the Mercenaries Kingdom border. First, move all of your party members to the edge of the stage in a line. Don't worry about running because they won't. Wein should be moving toward the fence at this point but he won't cross until the Battalion Commander and Spearman are well beyond the gate. After some of your party members are in place, have Arieta / Sereb and Riviera cast solo attack spells to take out the archer and the Magician in the back. They will begin to move once they are defeated. Once they begin to get close in on your party a good ways beyond Wein, kill the remaining Archer and have Wein get over to the exit as quickly as possible. After the Archer is killed (which is the third enemy) the Mercenaries will begin to retreat. They are too far in to see Wein so now is the chance to make it over the wall. After he is successfully over make it to the exit point as fast as possible. Once Wein is safe the party retreats. Because you pushed yourself against the edge of the stage, those characters will automatically escape without even issuing the command. Getting a Mission Complete will require you to set fires to all four locations. Remember before the Diversions mission when I told you to equip the Quickness gems, it will come into play here. First run toward the right side. The Spearman will see you but that's OK. Dispatch him with two System Shocks and then use Dash and then Psychic on the Commander. Run into the room on the right to light the fire, followed by the one on the left. After that run between the Spearman and the Battalion Commander and go to the upper room on the left followed by the upper room on the right. Your Dash should be wearing out by now so just use it again and run toward the edge of the map for a Mission Complete. If you are going the rout to kill all of the enemies then I suggest equipping the Lv6 Wind Shield gem and a Hyper-Attack Gem. Start the same as the strategy listed above but before attacking the initial enemies, Cast Attack Up and Shield Up. Once the first two rooms are ignited go towards the last two. Reinforcements will appear at this point. Go straight up and take out the Magician and the Archer. Heal if necessary at this point and then light the final two rooms on fire. More enemies will be coming your way so just take care of them at will. If the Commander is closing in on you, use Psychic again (I had 2 of them) on him to increase your chances of avoiding his attack. The last Mage will do a lot of damage with spells but if you keep healing he will eventually run out of MP. After the Battalion Commander is finished there should only be that Magician and two Archers. The Archers are useless because of the gem you have equipped. Don't worry about her because she is in the East Lost Forest. Go to the East Lost Forest and talk to the woman after speaking with the man. As a reward for the information about her husband she will give you a Lv7 Miracle Trainee Gem. They never do reunite right now but together they make all of the shops. The man sells Armor and Gems while the woman is a Ring Artisan. Both act as Pawn Brokers. If you need to heal then you can rest at the Southern Checkpoint. Once you are ready go to the North Lost Forest. The Armored Soldiers are weak against the thunder element and better yet, they are all lined up in the hall. Xenos and Hans took the second room on the left while Ernest and Wein took the second room on the right. Carmaine and Arieta took the first room on the right. In the room that Arieta goes to, position her in the corner and use Strengthen Magic plus Thunder Storm at the highest level. This will be in preparation of the three reinforcements that will arrive. Wolfgang has an attack that shoots straight down the middle of the hallway. Of course if you have a Teriaka gem equipped you have nothing to fear from this attack. Once Charlone has grabbed the treasure, use her to heal party members while Carmaine uses Cycle up and Refine to keep the party members healthy. After the first sets of Armored Soldiers at the top are defeated a new set will appear from the bottom. Lucky for you Arieta has been charging Thunder Storm. That spell will take them all out in one attack. Move into the last room to get the treasure and then finish off the three remaining Soldiers. After that only Wolfgang remains. Now that you have the Memory of Alviis gem you can equip it on Wein and use Invisibility Magic to get through the arena battles. Afterwards return to Burnstein Capital. Save your game before entering Burnstein Capital because this is will determine who's ending you will get. Wein will get a day off and he would like to spend it with a female. You will get to choose which one of your female characters you would like to spend the day with. Max will tell you how he survived. Of course you can skip this part and go straight to the capital to see the ending but this may affect Max being transferred to part III. After getting Riviera make your way toward Charlone. Riviera and Charlone will take quite a pounding but as long as you heal them they shouldn't die. Once you have rallied Charlone, move her out of the way and get Xenos. All three support characters should have a Lv4 Dispel gem because Max likes to use Meteor which can kill in one hit sometimes. Cast Attack Up, Cycle Up, Shield and Resistance on Xenos and Wein to minimize the damage taken and then use the rest of the fight to heal. As long as you are advancing forward you should beat him in plenty of time. If you are having trouble, make sure that both Xenos and Wein have Lv8 Hyper-Attack giving them multiple strikes and use System Shock on everything until you run out so that you only have to deal with a particular enemy once. Hans is especially dangerous to Wein in this fight because he only targets Wein and gets two attacks. Try not to kill him if you can help it. When Commander Logan gets close Wein and Xenos should double-team him because he is quite strong. After all of the enemies except for Hans are dealt with go after Max. If you didn't waste time dealing with the enemies leading to Max you should be able to defeat him by the time the magic circle is 5/8 completed. Hans should be the one with the Lv8 Hyper attack. Start by having Wein cast Cycle Up on Hans and Patrick use Attack Up Level 3 on Xenos, Wein and Hans. This is important because you will want to take out the enemies as fast as possible. Hans should use Dash at the start and then System Shock to attack the guard. After that Hans will take out the two magicians followed by the two soldiers on Xenos' side escaping with the treasure. After casting Cycle Up Wein should use Dash and then take out the soldier on the left side. The soldier on the right is slower and Wein will be able to block him in so that he can't get to Byron. Once Hans has taken care of Byron you can finish off the remaining guard. Hans should use Dash as his first move to close the distance quickly not allowing the three to get their attacks off. Patrick and Xenos should gang up on the soldiers one at a time to take them out faster. There will be one Infantryman but Wein can take that guy out easily by himself. After Wein has successfully taken out his enemy he should use magic to get the rest and at the highest level possible. When the enemy troops begin to get low the Commander will ell them to retreat. Byron is way ahead and Hans using the Dash technique is the only one fast enough to defeat him. As for the soldiers trying to get away at the end, Wein will finish them off with magic. Once Byron goes down Wein will have an important decision to make while Byron is pleading for his life. Well... - You're lowest of the low. - There's no point in killing him. After they are defeated work on taking out the Battle Wizard and the two Archers. Wein should cast Cycle up on Hans while Patrick uses Attack Up on Hans. After Wein has cast the spell have him and Xenos use Dash and go straight for Logan. Patrick should use Attack Up on Wein as well and then focus on healing Wein or Xenos if they need it. After they are defeated the spot where the battle takes place is a checkpoint. If you check it out the messenger will tell you that they are trying to persuade Schwartzfals and Rottenbaum to join. He needs your opinion on who to send to the villages. Here are you're three choices. ~Simon~ Honest and quiet. Not easily surprised. ~Martin~ Easygoing and upbeat. Likable but not aggressive. ~Dozz~ Quick temper, with a threatening manner. To get both of the villages to join send Dozz to Rottenbaum and Simon to Schwartzfals. After this is done its time to rest. Do some exploring while you wait for the outcome of the negotiations. On the map, South Grandshill is available and if you go there a mercenary will tell you that the Control Tower is under attack by a woman controlling a spirit. Sounds like Arieta, time to investigate. On the landing of the control tower will be a battle with Gevas. If you did all of the Arieta events and obtained the Neural Device then you will have a chance to save her. Also you will want to place a Lv6 Quickness on Wein so his speed will be insane. On the first round have Wein use Dash followed by him making a beeline for the steps. Patrick and Xenos should move to the left so that Gevas' flame attack won't hit the next time he uses it and Hans should focus on the Yungs that could potentially stop Wein from reaching the steps. After Patrick is in place have him cast Cycle Up on Hans followed by Attack Up. Hans now has the power to take out every Yung before they can even get close. Your priority after this is to protect Sereb until he can jump inside Gevas. Use Patrick to heal Sereb. Once Wein reaches the steps it will be a couple of turns before Arieta is saved. Once the scene with Wein at the top of the tower occurs, you can kill Gevas because Arieta will be a part of the team. Don't forget to use Thievery on Gevas to get something good. ************************* Grasslands (Arieta) ************************* If you were able to save Arieta then a scene will occur and the field where she is remembering. As she continues to talk Wein interrupts. Have Patrick cast Cycle Up on Hans and have Wein cast Attack Up on him. Xenos should get right in Ernest's face and defend while Hans continues the assault. In the meantime Arieta should be casting Wind Capacitator while Wein heals Xenos throughout. After Ernest takes enough damage Kenshin will arrive to rescue him. To get a Mission Complete neither Ernest nor Kenshin must escape unharmed. It is best to equip Hans with a ring that lowers his ATW plus he should have lv8 Hyper-Attack and Lv6 New Horizons. Hans' ATW was at 50 when I did this battle and even with Cycle UP I barely got them before they escaped. While Ernest tries to run away you should be attacking with your strongest techniques. Kenshin doesn't have as much HP and will be easier to defeat. ************************* Schwartzfals Village ************************* Now that you have driven back the two Imperial Knights go back to Schwartzfals and visit the inn where the man is resting. You will find out something interesting about Wolfgang and Wein must make a decision. I chose the middle one That means I should treat Wolfgang as if... - He was wronged by our father. - He was the cold-blooded murderer he is. (Choose this one) - Nothing had happened. I wish I didn't know. The Armor Shop is now open as well so take a look at the new goods. Hans should then start out by killing the soldier near Wein, followed by the Commander and then Riviera. The reason that you go after Riviera first is because she has some powerful spells. After that part of the battlefield is cleared except for Charlone, have Wein use Cure on whoever needs it. A soldier will get near Wein but he can take care of that soldier himself. Arieta is in the most danger because she is close to a spearman and a soldier. Have her move away toward Xenos and Patrick and then cast your highest elemental spell using the Tech Quicken Aria. Arieta will be used to take down the Archer and the Battle Wizard behind the house where you rescued Hans and the kids. Patrick and Xenos need to use Dash and then take out the soldier and the Spearman that were near Arieta. The Monk Fighter will try to heal the troops so take care of him after. Charlone will be the only one left so just defend until the rest of the troops in Starkberg are defeated. Wein and Xenos should have one Lv8 Hyper-Attack and Arieta should have a Lv9 Mage's Aria. Start by having Hans attack Charlone and Riviera. The reason you want to take them out is because Charlone will cast Rust on everybody while Riviera hits you with magic. Wein should cast Cycle Up on Hans and then begin his assault on the soldiers coming out the only doorway. Move Xenos to the right of where Wein will be attacking so that he and Wein won't be lined up. Start taking out the guards with them and have Hans help when he is finished with Charlone and Riviera. Hans should be using his System Shock on the soldiers to take them out in one attack and when Lyell is the only one left on that side have Wein and Xenos double team him. Arieta should only cast spells targeted at Lyell while Patrick is there for support casting Attack Up, Shield Up, and Cure on the fighters. If you follow this strategy you will defeat all of them well before reinforcements arrive. If they start arriving then you will not be able to win easily. Once the counter reaches 0 it's Game Over. ~The End~ If you let Byron Escape earlier and said that Wolfgang was a cold-blooded killer then you will get an extra scene with Byron on the road home. Thinking about the decision Wein thinks to himself... (If Byron gets lucky, Wolfgang could die...) - Wolfgang is too valuable to risk!
