When Misawa took the majority of that promotion's roster to form Pro Wrestling NOAH, Marufuji went along for the ride, and since that time he has become one of the biggest names in Japanese wrestling, accomplishing feats that other wrestlers can only dream of. Marufuji's star began to rise when he formed a tag team with another up- and-coming young star, KENTA. Together they went on to enjoy great success both in and out of the NOAH promotion. And when Marufuji eventually set out on his own, he went on to even greater successes, winning the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship as well as the 2004 Super J-Cup. Marufuji certainly wasn't done there, as he went on to defeat Jun Akiyama in incredible fashion to become the smallest (and youngest) GHC Heavyweight Champion ever. Marufuji eventually lost the title to none other than Misawa himself, but in the process of winning the belt became the first NOAH wrestler in history to hold all five of the company's titles. Since that time he has worked in the States for the Ring of Honor promotion, gaining exposure to a whole new legion of appreciative fans. ======================================== ==SECTION 2: SKILL AND PARAMETER STATS== ======================================== SKILL ----- Real Name..............Naomichi Marufuji FPR Name...................Naomichi Kado Organization..........Pro Wrestling NOAH FPR Organization..............Super NOVA FPR Group.....................Super NOVA Size...............................Small Class.............................Junior Height............................176 cm Weight.............................88 kg Gender..............................Male Birthdate.....................12/20/1979 Country............................Japan Rank...................................C Charisma...............................B Stance.............................Lucha Fight Style......................Panther Return..........................Luchador Critical........................Finisher Special..........................Stardom Recovery...................Medium (Good) Recovery (when bleeding)............Slow Breathing...................Above (Good) Breathing (when bleeding)..........Below Spirit............................Medium Spirit (when bleeding)............Medium Neck Endurance....................Medium Arm Endurance.....................Medium Back Endurance....................Medium Leg Endurance.....................Medium Movement Speed......................Fast Up and Down Speed...................Fast Ascent Style..................Can Run Up Favorite Weapon.....................None PARAMETER - OFFENSE PARAMETER - DEFENSE ------------------- ------------------- Punch.............3 Punch.............5 Kick..............4 Kick..............4 Throw.............4 Throw.............6 Joint.............3 Joint.............4 Stretch...........4 Stretch...........4 Power.............2 Flying............8 Agility..........10 Body..............4 Arm...............2 Lariat............3 Technical.........9 Technical.........8 Rough.............3 Rough.............4 MMA Overall.......3 MMA Overall.......3 Entertain.........2 Entertain.........8 ------------------- ------------------- OFF. 4: STRATEGY== ======================= GENERAL STRATEGY Naomichi Marufuji sits comfortably in the upper echelon of the Fire Pro junior division with a lofty 164 attribute points. Enter him in a junior tournament and he's instantly an odds-on favorite (in fact, he won one of my own simmed tournaments, which led to the creation of this guide). So skilled is Marufuji that he is only outranked in the junior division by some of the more legendary names, such as Jyushin Liger and Tiger Mask. Marufuji has the "Stardom" Special Skill, which means that taunting (or appealing to the crowd) can actually give you a tactical advantage late in the match. One good strategy is to slam the opponent down to the mat, taunt/appeal, then hit the ropes for a sliding dropkick to the face. Offensively speaking, Naomichi Marufuji is a decidedly average junior in FPR barring three huge exceptions; the dreaded "Panther" Fight Style, a 10 Agility rating and a 9 Technical rating. The last two statistics alone make it worth abandoning the moves in his moveset that do not fall into one of these two categories. Fortunately, a good number of Marufuji's move fall into the "Agility" category, but here are a few particular moves you may want to focus on: * Dragon Screw * Gannosuke Clutch * Leg Trip * School Boy * Huracanrana * La Magistral One more important thing to remember when it comes to Marufuji; the corner is your friend. From there, Marufuji can land some of the bigger and flashier moves in his arsenal, including two "run up the post" moves and several variations of his patented finisher, the Shiranui. STRIKES Marufuji's kicks make up an important part of his arsenal, so it's vital that you learn their range and connect with them early and often. The Thrust Kick is a Special, meaning that it's probably the move you're going to want to stick with for most of your striking. GRAPPLES Marufuji's grapple set is fairly pedestrian, although the wealth of Agility-based moves means they're going to be effective nonetheless. Again, when it comes to grappling with Marufuji, it's best to position yourself near the corner and go for one of his corner grapples. Even if you find yourself being hoisted atop the turnbuckle, he has a Special reversal (yet another variation of the Shiranui) that can turn the tables in a hurry. ====================== ==SECTION 5: CLOSING== ====================== In closing, I would like to thank Jason Blackhart for statistical information and Dave Fairbairn and Z-Force for moveset clarification and technical clarification of the Panther fight style.
