==SECTION 1: HISTORY OF EBESSAN/EBETARO/KIKUTARO==
==================================================
I don't know about you folks, but when I think of the all-time great
comedy duos, several names instantly come to mind; Abbott and Costello,
Lewis and Martin, Ebessan and Kuishinbo Kamen...

Waitaminnit... Ebessan and Kamen?!? Yep, that's right. This wacky Osaka
Pro duo is to comedy wrestling what classic comedy duos are to... well,
whatever they are. Between the two of them, Ebessan and Kamen have put on
a string of highly entertaining and extremely hilarious bouts. Words
simply cannot do these matches justice.

Ebessan got his wrestling start in some of the smaller Japanese hardcore
promotions, wrestling under his real name, Mitsunobu Kikuzawa. But it
wasn't until he moved to Osaka Pro under the guise of Japan's deity of
good fortune (he's not a clown, Kamen's the clown!) that his career really
began to take off. And as his notoriety on the Japanese wrestling scene
began to grow, Ebessan found himself becoming an increasingly prominent
figure in certain circles, even going so far as to compete in New Japan's
Best of the Super Juniors 2003 tournament.

One of Ebessan's great talents is his ability to parody many of today's
professional wrestlers, with hilarious results. His impersonations of
Keiji Mutoh, Abdullah the Butcher, Jushin Liger, Stan Hansen and even
Cactus Jack need to be seen to be believed, and sometimes the victims of
his parodies (such as Mutoh) actually work tag matches with him while he's
doing their gimmick! What a riot!

Although Ebessan's in-ring focus is usually on comedy spots, he is also
a surprisingly solid ring technician. His diminutive size (5'5") a wide
girth belie the fact that he can be incredibly and agile and athletic at
times, which is backed up by a solid grasp on the fundamentals of basic
match psychology and ringwork.

Sadly, as of this writing, Ebessan has left the Osaka Pro promotion and
has moved onto the Japanese freelance scene, which means not only has he
leave his Ebessan gimmick behind (he's now the eerily-similar Ebetaro,
or Kikutaro), but his classic feuds with Kuishinbo Kamen may also be
finished for good. Nevertheless, you can rest assured that Ebessan/Ebetaro
will undoubtedly be having more hilarious in-ring escapades in the future,
whoever his opponents may be!

Recommended Ebessan match: Osaka Pro Hurricane 2003 (vs. Kuishinbo Kamen)

==SECTION 4: STRATEGY==
=======================

GENERAL STRATEGY
By taking a brief glance at Ebessan's stats, we can see he's at a definite
disadvantage versus.. well, just about everyone. Given his career thus far
(a junior-sized wrestler who spent most of his time with a lesser known
independent promotion, and even then wasn't exactly a perennial winner),
this is to be expected.

But playing as Ebessan doesn't mean playing to win, there are plenty of
other grapplers to choose when it comes to that. Instead, playing as
Ebessan means focusing solely on entertainment, the importance of match
outcome should be secondary. It's unfortunate that some of his better
known comedy spots (such as "The World's Laziest Shining Wizard" and "The
Butt Fingerpoke of Doom") aren't in as moves, but oh well, you'll just
have to improvise without them.

Ebessan has the "American" offensive style and the "Orthodox" defensive
style, which seems strange until you take into consideration the fact that
(a) some of his in-game offense (ex: Superkick, which I can't recall ever
seeing him do in real-life) can more or less be considered an American
style; and (b) his solid in-ring fundamentals are perfectly suited for an
orthodox defense.

Entertainment is the only area where Ebessan excels skill-wise, but his
decided lack of entertainment-type moves basically nullifies this (except
in terms of defense, where he is well-equipped to deal with these types of
moves). His technical stats are merely average, but considering the rest
of his skills are far worse for the most part, this may be have to
considered one of his advantages.

If you absolutely have to win with Ebessan, his aerial moves are where
it's at. With a 7 rating in Flying, he can at least do some decent damage
by repeatedly climbing the post. Of course, this means your opponent will
have to be somewhat worn down to begin with, which is where the true
challenge lies.

STRIKES
In a word, horrible. His punch/kick stats are far below average, and his
arsenal is nothing to write home about either. Trying to break down a
tough opponent with Ebessan's strikes is like trying to cut down an oak
tree with a steak knife. It can be done, but it's going to take some time.

His only saving grace in the strike category is his [] + X move, the
Rolling Prawn Hold, which isn't a strike at all. You can try to whip this
out of the blue to surprise an opponent early, but it's better suited for
getting a pinfall victory late in the match, when things are so close that
you don't want to risk another grapple.

GRAPPLES
Marginally better than his striking ability. His grappling skill is nearly
as poor as his striking, but at least he has a somewhat competent array of
grappling moves to compensate. If you're opponent has the same basic
ability as Ebessan (i.e. Kamen), you'll be OK with what he has here. But
if you're up against some of the more competent wrestlers in the game,
you're still dealing with a major disadvantage.

In the Strong Grapple category, his finisher, the Hurricane Whip (Ebisu
Otoshi) can "CRITICAL!", and therefore may be your best chance of nailing
a victory against a tough opponent, provided he's worn down enough to let
you perform it. Also, the Shining Wizard (SHINING EBEZARDO!) is good for
chipping away at an opponent's health. Late in the match, these two moves
-- along with his post moves -- are your bread and butter.

==SECTION 5: RECOSTUMING EBESSAN==
==================================
I chose to recostume Ebessan's second outfit, as I thought his first
outfit -- which is based on his current incarnation -- should probably be
left well enough alone.

In any case, there is no actual recostuming necessary for his second
outfit, only a recoloring and resizing of what is already there. Most of
the preset color gradations work fine for this, it's only a question of
matching up the proper color schemes. If you already know what "classic"
Ebessan looks like, you'll probably have no trouble figuring this out on
your own.

ADDITIONAL EBESSAN COSTUME NOTES
Ebessan's fourth FPR costume is his "Ebitoh" (Keiji Mutoh) persona, which
looks pretty good except for the fact he has the same mask as his regular
persona, which means he's still wearing his hat and doesn't have Mutoh's
goatee!
