Catherine confirmed for North America after all

Despite a hasty removal from GameStop's site, Catherine is indeed coming to North America. While the American version of the game's official site is short on details, a press release this morning says game will arrive this summer for both the PS3 and the 360. Amazon lists the release date as July 26, but Atlus has yet to confirm anything except the fact that the game is in fact coming. It is not known whether the upcoming difficulty patch will come pre-loaded onto the American version, or whether the game will have a Japanese dialog option.

Above: Our recent office-wide hands-on with the Japanese version. Immense WTF inside!

Catherine is only confirmed for North America. Since Atlus does not have a European publishing arm, a third party will need to acquire the rights to the game in order to please the PAL regions.

  • claytonmiller - March 1, 2011 6:20 p.m.

Just got my copy reserved. Very happy that they finally came out and announced it.

NO! I SO hope there's third party that pics it up! Europe can NOT go without it! I've only been watching it for a few days, but i'm totally pumped for Catherine. I hope it doesn't come with a subtitled Japanese dialogue option though, it'd be far better than just the American dub.
  • SenorDiablo - March 1, 2011 6:25 p.m.

Still looking forward to this even though I got impatient and imported that game.
  • Balaska - March 1, 2011 6:45 p.m.

Maybe Atlus will be nice and not region lock it so we here in England can just import it, I want Japanese craziness please!
  • oryandymackie - March 1, 2011 7:14 p.m.

Could we perhaps push for a release in Europe, too?
  • corndog501 - March 1, 2011 7:17 p.m.

jackthemenace: Can't you just import a copy from the states? I have friends from Europe who play both American and European versions of games and sometimes go out of their way to get a game back from the "motherland". As far as I know, consoles are not region locked for games. And yes, japanese dub/english subs are waaaay better than a crappy english dub.
  • ChiChiRocket - March 1, 2011 7:21 p.m.

So... what was up with Atlus saying no before? Did they just want to mess with us?
  • ichigoame - March 1, 2011 8:27 p.m.

ps3 games are region free right? quite frankly i don't see why it wouldn't come out on PAL version..I once watched a thing about anime and the guy said anime is actually more succesful in europe than in america 0.o don't see why so many in the eu would be to flippant to play it then
  • santaclouse37 - March 1, 2011 8:33 p.m.

  • rabidpotatochip - March 1, 2011 9:55 p.m.

Hrm, I think this is a good thing... but now I need to find a way to shoehorn it into my gaming time. Argh, too many games this year.
  • Letter11 - March 1, 2011 10 p.m.

  • Yaro - March 1, 2011 10:59 p.m.

A niche game released in summer? Remember what Sonic says: "If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably false!" Hope it gets released in Europe before September...
