Call of Duty: Black Ops - 8 simple reasons you suck at multiplayer

Reason #2 – You use assault rifles for everything

What would you think about a man who owned a grocery store and yet only ever ate dry rice? Sure, it keeps him sustained, but damn if it's uninteresting. So why, when you have the option to use dozens of different type of weapons, would you choose to use a bland assault rifle for every possible circumstance? What good will it do to have you guarding a point in an objective-based game with a gun that needs four bullets to bring down a target. Odds are you'll be dead before you can count that high.

How to fix it: Think critically about what you're going to be doing and experiment with new things depending upon the situation. If you're going to be defending something, you'll probably be better off with a shotgun at short range. Or maybe a sniper rifle if you've got time to set up a perch somewhere far off. If there's lot of thin cover nearby, pick up an LMG. If it's mostly tight corridors, come packing an Uzi. You'll win far more often when you're dressed for the occasion.

Worst in: Domination, Headquarters

Above: It’s okay if Lady Gaga is fixated on long assault rifle barrels. But you are no Lady Gaga

Reason #1 – You mindlessly assault Point B

It's almost sickening to see how many people throw their lives away trying to take or retake point B in Domination. It's in the middle of the level for a reason, folks. It's supposed to be really tough to take. Points A and C are far easier to assault on most levels, yet you continue to throw yourselves at B as though it did something special.

How to fix it: Each position gives the same amount of points. Spread the love. If the enemy is focused on B, use one of the many back roads to sneak around and take A or C. Your team will get more points, and you're far more likely to be able to take the middle point once the enemy has retreated to try to regain what you just took.

Worst in: Domination

Above: See how everything is blowing up and tons of people are shooting at you? Go someplace else for a little while. Is that so hard?

Here's thing, a lot of these things are good tips, and it would be helpful for a game like BF3, but for COD games they just don't work. These tips are based on tactical gameplay, and simulating, atleast somewhat or as much as possible, real life battle scenarios. COD doesn't cater to that type of gameplay. P.S. please no fanboy commentary

So you're saying I should find cover and reload a millisecond before that guy runs around the corner? I don't think so.
  • dragnwolf33 - January 14, 2011 7:10 p.m.

The reloading issue...i always reload after a gunfight. I have had to many times where i would forget to reload, get into another fight, die because i ran out of ammo. Keep your clips full if you have it.
  • dragnwolf33 - January 14, 2011 7:07 p.m.

When I play domination with my clan, we always take B right away and keep the opponent spawning at either A or C. That works everytime for us. We set up camp at the 2 points we have and the game is over in minutes.
  • Yeager1122 - January 10, 2011 7:33 p.m.

I do the relloading all the time but i have on faster realoading for it so i usually dont die from it.
  • danabro88 - January 10, 2011 3:33 p.m.

I disagree with the reloading. I Personally think that reloading after most firefights will rack up more kills than waiting. Most people online tend to move around alot in a firefight which requires more bullets to actually hit them, dont have enough bullets ur dead. If u'r really concerned about the reload time then use a combInation of sleight and dual mags its pretty much instant reload.

    @Twizinator This doesn't change anything,really,huh mate?
  • P0LARCLAW - January 9, 2011 7:03 p.m.

The reloading thing depends completely on the gun. Also in CoD assault rifles/SMGs do work for everything. The rest I agree with though.
  • EdDeRs1 - January 9, 2011 6:27 p.m.

i use the hell on earth at point Bto rack up 2 or 3 kills to get a UAV, get noob tubed, repeat. and the reloading thing isnt mutch of a problem 4 me cos i usaly use slight of hand on most of my classes so a few extra rounds in the mag prove very useful
  • poopaloop1 - January 9, 2011 5:07 p.m.

wow this article was hilarious i use the assault rifles so much because they work in almost every situation. I dont use snipers unless im in hardcore because im a bad sniper and i miss a lot. I dont use LMG's because there's really no advantage they have over assault rifles and they make you move slower. I dont use shotguns because theyre useless unless your 3 feet away from the person youre trying to kill. I dont like SMG's because they are so similar to each other
  • CandiedJester - January 9, 2011 11:18 a.m.

...guilty as charged...on the majority of these. ><; The worst thing is every one of them has crossed my mind, "I should stop sprinting so much, takes longer to aim." and "I really need to stop immediately relaoding." etc. but....bad habits, I guess. Oh, and I am also extremely antsy. I have ZERO patience. But, I will learn sometime. Just like I eventually did on WaW, which I have played the most and now have specific classes for specific maps and things like that. Knowing the maps by heart helps tremendously as well. Still learning the maps for Black Ops. I am a slow learner when it comes to cod games. x'3
  • zd24 - January 9, 2011 7:15 a.m.

a)the ar is always hot b)never stop racking up the biggest killstreak you can to die and get more equipment
  • Twizinator - January 9, 2011 6:55 a.m.

@Chased cool story bro this is Black Ops not facking GoldenEye... Sniper Rifles ftw.
  • The_King_of_Nothing - January 9, 2011 6:51 a.m.

I disagree with number 4 a little and the assault rifle one.. I have seen my team collapse hundreds of times in the span of one of my deaths. It always seems like I am the only one holding my team together. I think number 3 comes in play a little sooner than you give it credit. I use an assault rifle most of the time because aside from about 3 SMGs and the L96A1, all the other weapons suck balls. They made LMG horrible by making them have the same amount of bullets as assault rifle, but still make you move slower and take way longer to reload, M60 being exception to bullet rule. They are crap except the Stoner which is an assault rifle labeled LMG. The other sniper rifles always take 2 shot to kill someone which makes sniping pointless. Otherwise good list though.
  • Twizinator - January 9, 2011 6:50 a.m.

I am guilty of #7 at least. I swear I may have a seizure/meltdown if my clip is not full. Also, I tend to fall to #2 if I dont have a strategy for a map. ARs are effective, balanced weapons: they just might not be the best anywhere. Still, if my deaths don't matter as much (e.g. Domination) i love Shotgun/BallisticKnife rushing :D I love sniping but the maps in CoD:BO are generally awful for snipers. lol @jfung11
  • Drumdoctor - January 9, 2011 4:17 a.m.

I'm soooo guilty of #7. I don't get killed because of it often though, I love slight of hand
  • civver - January 9, 2011 2:30 a.m.

#7 can be sort of ignored with Suppressors and Sleight of Hand. As for #2, some of the assault rifles are good at everything. If you know how to shoot, you could even snipe with them. With #1, assaulting an enemy spawn point will be as hard as assaulting the middle point anyway.
  • PipBowl420 - January 9, 2011 1:48 a.m.

all yah godda do is just STAY ALIVE. if yah die. try to STAY ALIVE in the end you'll probably have around 25 kills 2 or 3 deaths. solid
  • Lamboking97 - January 9, 2011 1:03 a.m.

black ops isnt dat hard tho.. do peopl rele suck dat badd??? no offense lol
  • Hullonotna - January 8, 2011 10:22 p.m.

Reloading isn't that bad. There were times when because I reloaded I was able to save myself and get a few kills. P.S: I play PC so that might have something to do with it.
