This is Josh Gad’s world and we’re all just living in it. Away from his performance in the billion-dollar Beauty and the Beast and his increasingly outlandish series of Star Wars: The Last Jedi spoiler interrogations with Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad has been on fire on social media too. He’s even given away the world’s worst hint that he’ll be playing The Penguin, which is nice of him.
There are plenty of reasons why Josh Gad could be posting a picture of Batman villain The Penguin out of the blue on Twitter, but let’s stick with the most blindingly obvious: he’s surely going to play The Penguin.

The Penguin, with his penchant for fish and underworld connections, first appeared on-screen in 1992’s Batman Returns (played by Danny DeVito), with his popularity being maintained by several showings in Batman: The Animated Series.
More recently, a younger Oswald Cobblepot appeared in Gotham and even Nolan North had a turn as The Penguin in a shine-your-shoes-guvnor cockney-laden performance in Batman: Arkham City.
Gad, if he does indeed get the role, could play The Penguin in any number of Batman-related movies hitting in the next few years- 2019 has a rumoured six alone. Deep breath now: Gotham City Sirens, The Nightwing movie, Joss Whedon’s Batgirl, The Batman, plus two animated movies. Gad, then, has a lot of inspirations to pull from. Should he go full grotesque DeVito, or more of Nolan North’s cor blimey Cobblepot?
