Bulletstorm skillshot guide

Breakdance - Drill an enemy into the ground

Surprisingly difficult. We assumed we could just kick an enemy to the ground, stroll over and shoot the Penetrator directly down at his body. This didn’t register as a Breakdance skill shot, however, 90% of the time. Instead, find an environment where you’re on a level higher than your targets – the “Spaceport” Echo mode is perfect, as you’re on an upper balcony with Ishi and Trishka fighting half the enemies below you. The drill will often fling bodies to a nearby wall or object instead of the floor, but in the right area, you’re bound to get Breakdance eventually.

Fan-Tastic - Drill an enemy into the ceiling

The trick here is picking the right environment. A completely open area won’t work, as there’s no ceiling. A room with a low ceiling won’t work either, as your thump will smash and kill everyone automatically. In a large enough interior, though, all you have to do is thump and aim the Penetrator up at any of the floating bodies. The spinning effect is most satisfying indeed!

Root Canal - Insert a drill into an enemy's head

The Penetrator’s version of a headshot. You’ll probably get this without even trying. Having trouble? Leash an enemy towards you for a slow-motion chance to aim.

Twisted - Fire a drill into an enemy but have him die through other means

Obvious enough. Shoot an enemy with the Penetrator when he’s standing near an environmental hazard. Enemies near long drops work the best, but since the drill loves to zip wildly around the room once it’s attached to a body – and also seems magnetically drawn to dangerous areas – you’ll often end up with a Twisted skill shot when you least expect it.

Mile High Club - Send an enemy into the sky

Sometimes the drill will pull an enemy into the sky even when you were aiming straight ahead. If you’re having trouble, however, try shooting enemies that are on a higher level than you – up the stairs from you, for example. Crouching to increase the angle can help, too.

Air Strike - Impale a thumped enemy into a standing enemy

The description doesn’t say so, but from our experience, you need the charged Penetrator for an Air Strike skill shot to succeed. When the weapon is charged, you can shoot an enemy and, as his drilled body floats in place, target a second enemy for the drill to head towards next. Thumping a room often sends every enemy into the air, so we’d recommend targeting a miniboss as the “standing” enemy since he always remains on the ground.

Shishkebab - Impale two or more enemies with a single drill

Since enemies in Bulletstorm love to run towards you in rows of two or three, the Shishkebab skill shot is fairly simple to achieve. Even if the targets aren’t perfectly aligned, the drill will often correct its course to catch them both anyway.

Wingmen - Impale two or more airborne enemies with a single drill

The description doesn’t say so, but from our experience, you need the charged Penetrator for a Wingmen skill shot to succeed. Thump a room of enemies, shoot one, then target a second (you’ll know the second is targeted when he’s outlined in red) with the same drill.

Stinger - CHARGED: Suspend a drilled enemy mid-air, then kick him into another enemy

Without a doubt, the Stinger skill shot is the toughest to perform in Bulletstorm. Even when you know exactly what to do, it’s a bitch that requires multiple attempts and a large dose of luck. To put the odds in your favor, load up an area in which enemies run towards you in groups – we like the “Jumpship” Echo mode – and leash the first of those enemies towards you. Hit him with the charged drill and kick him back at his friends.

Here’s the problem: Bulletstorm seems to have no clue what you’re trying to do here, and will almost always send the drilled enemy towards an environmental hazard instead of towards another enemy, no matter how well you aimed your kick. Just repeat again and again until fate smiles upon you. We found that waiting until the leashed enemy is close to touching the ground before drilling him helped with the trajectory of our kicks quite a bit.

Drilldo - CHARGED: Ram two or more enemies during a slide with the charged weapon

Somewhat like the Bullet Slide or Torpedo skill shots, only for Drilldo, you don’t even have to pull the trigger. When the Penetrator drill is charged, all you need to do is walk into enemies for them to disintegrate, so sliding into a group means instant death for everyone you touch. Touch two or more and you’ve got the skill shot.

Pancake - Crush an enemy between a wall and heavy object

Occasionally, enemies will block a doorway with a table. When you kick that table and it smashes the enemies cowering behind it, you’ll earn the Pancake skill shot. This opportunity is present in Act 1: Chapter 1 and “The Hideout” Echo mode.

Mass Extinction - Stomp an enemy with the Mechaton

Mechaton is the robotic Godzilla that you control during the amusement park level in Act 2: Chapter 2. Using the monster to shoot enemies won’t unlock the Mass Extinction skill shot, and you can’t directly order him to stomp on enemies – just move him towards a group, however, and he should step on at least one.

Kill-O-Watt - Push an enemy into the electric buildings of Mechaton's mini-city

Before you gain control of the Mechaton, you’ll pass through his ride, in which every miniature skyscraper acts like the electrical fields you see elsewhere in the game. For this single area, you’ll receive Kill-O-Watt skill shots instead of Shocker skill shots whenever you electrocute an enemy.

Fish Food - Drown an enemy in water

Just kick or shoot an enemy into the water. If you somehow missed this skill shot while playing through the campaign, load up “The Marina” Echo mode for plenty of chances.

Floater - Drown an enemy in streaming water

Same as the Fish Food skill shot, but since the water must be “streaming,” you’ll encounter far less opportunities to earn it. Load up Act 3: Chapter 2 – “A Dam Fine Mess” – and fight through the first room of snipers. The very next area features a streaming river, waterfall and bridge. Kick, leash or bullet-guide any of the enemies into the water for Floater.

Grinder - Kill an enemy with the dam's rotating water wheel

The end of Act 3: Chapter 2 is the only section of Bulletstorm’s campaign in which you can perform the Grinder skill shot. (Conveniently, this is the same section you’ll want to load for Floater and Man Toast.) After you’ve rescued Trishka and fought through the large open promenade, you’ll enter the dam. Head down the stairs, then up the elevator and, when you’re finally close enough to the giant rotating water wheel, start kicking and leashing enemies into it.

Man Toast - Burn an enemy to death in the furnaces

Remember the furnace room in Act 3: Chapter 2, where you caught up with and rescued Trishka? That’s the only place in the game to perform the Man Toast skill shot – kick any of the enemies into any of the orange flames. They’ll jump away, but you can corner them with enough effort. This area is immediately after the streaming river for Fish Food and immediately before the dam wheels for Grinder.

Tenderizer - Flatten an enemy with the elevator

If you played the Bulletstorm demo, you already know where to achieve the Tenderizer skill shot. This is a scripted moment with a huge sideways elevator shaft, and occurs in Act 4: Chapter 3 or the “Collapsed Building” Echo mode. Same section as the Ding Dong skill shot.

Ding Dong - Kill an enemy by opening the doors in the "ceiling" of the collapsed building

If you played the Bulletstorm demo, you already know where to achieve the Ding Dong skill shot. This is a scripted moment that occurs in Act 4: Chapter 3, or in the “Collapsed Building” Echo mode. The first two enemies you encounter begin to flee, then turn around to fight you while standing underneath a sideways door. Leash the door to send rubble toppling down on them. This is very close to where you earn the Tenderizer skill shot.

Halloween - Put a Nom parasite on an enemy’s head, then kick him into an electric object

Don’t bother trying this when you first encounter the Nom parasites – there are no electric objects anywhere nearby. Wait until Act 5: Chapter 3, where there’s a small section absolutely packed with both parasites and electric signs.

Steady Hand - Kill a Burnout by only hitting his weak spot

Switch to the Screamer pistol and carefully aim only at the Burnouts’ orange glowing bulges. To make this incredibly simple, thump the Burnouts into slow-motion stasis so that you can take your time.

Dino-Sore - Shoot the weak spots on Hekaton's neck during the helicopter battle

This is a scripted skill shot that you’ll earn automatically if you played through the campaign far enough to fight the massive dinosaur boss in a helicopter (end of Act 5: Chapter 3). You know, the one whose eggs you destroyed earlier in the game. Just shoot the neck sores when instructed.

Outburst - Push an enemy into the storm

You’ll have a zillion chances to perform the Outburst skill shot when you reach Act 6: Chapter 1. The level is full of vertical blue lightning storms – kick, shoot or leash an enemy into those bolts for a nice light show.

Sucker - Kill an enemy using a fan

There are two places to perform the Sucker skill shot. The first is Act 2: Chapter 1, when you’re making your way across the rooftops with Ishi. The second is much later in the game, when you’re with Ishi and General Sarrano near the end of Act 6: Chapter 3. Both moments are included in the video above.

Forced - Kill an enemy by flinging them into an electromagnetic pulse barrier

During Act 6: Chapter 3, you’ll have to leash a glowing energy core to un-electrify some barriers before jumping over them. You can also kick Burnouts into those barriers while they’re still electrified for the Forced skill shot.

Ejeculated - Jettison the Heavy Echoes in Cargo Hold

This is a scripted moment in Act 7: Chapter 2. You’ll pull a handle that opens an airlock, sending three or four soldiers flying into oxygen-less space.

Weed Killer - Kill the Flytrap boss

Beat the boss at the end of Act 4: Chapter 2.

Minced Meat - Kill the first Burnout miniboss

Beat the boss at the end of Act: Chapter 2.

Grilled Meat - Kill the second Burnout miniboss

Beat the boss at the end of Act 6: Chapter 3.

this game is badass. I love it. I already have 98 out of 131 skill shots aquired
  • NightbornAngel - March 30, 2011 8:14 a.m.

okay, so people are struggling with some skill shots. i just finished the game, and will share the ones i had difficulty with. if there are more, PM me in game Nightborn Angel (xbox360) penetrator, Wing Man - charge penetratot. thump enemies (suggested near a mini boss) when u hit the airborn enemy, move target to mini boss asap. he will b outlined in orange. press FIRE again, drill will re-target to the boss (very easy if u no how to this) as for snap shots and the one to get 2 fast draws in a row. go to chapter 5-3, get the area before u leash the bush (b4 hekaton shows up) THUMP burn outs into the air. try and aim for their glowing lumps. and shoot them (one hit to a lump is instant death)

And Also I got stinger in the final Mission. When the room opens up where Sarano says something about Satan's asshole, wait for one to run out, shoot a charged shot and kick. It really is one of the luckier shots. And I can't believe that the penetrator was not put under charged shot, it makes so much sense now

@Charlie Barratt I just got Lucky Shot today lol, I was able to do it in the final act, don't hold R1 When you shoot haha. Thanks for the guide and thanks for the last two I needed!
  • GamesRadarCharlieBarratt - March 12, 2011 12:47 a.m.

@F4G1TR0N Air Strike and Wingmen are super easy if you use the charged Penetrator... not sure why the game lists them as regular skillshots. Lucky Shot just requires the right distance, angle and repetition. Watch the video to see how and where I did it.

Will this be updated anytime soon? The hardest skill shots would have to be Lucky Shot and Air Strike. Maybe also include Wingman. Lucky shot seems impossible, the cannon is not able to travel 100m without bouncing, unless I am shooting it wrong. And how the hell are you supposed to thump someone, then shoot the penetrator at them so that it will hit someone standing? If that was a charge shot, it would be easy because you are able to redirect the shot. A normal shot will just shoot a thumped enemy into the air. Also wingman is not as hard as these two, you just have to line them up perfectly, which I have found no way to do

Another thing to note, is that for the achievement, you can perform the skill shots in Echo Mode for them to count. So instead of having to replay chapters, you can just load up an Echo Mode, choose your weapons and practice all you want. When you look at what is unlocked, it doesn't have to have a green check, it only has to have the displayed name next to it to know if you got it. The only skill shots you have to replay a chapter for are the story specific ones.

Awesome Guide and Bad Ass Videos! I really like in the videos how you give multiple examples.
  • FreedomPhantom - March 1, 2011 6:11 a.m.

I am SO getting this very soon!
  • wiitard07 - March 1, 2011 1:45 a.m.

@wing126 Yes there are. I don't know if you are making fun of the game with that comment but people need to stop making fun of this game for being balls out inappropriate, because from a shooter standpoint, this game is bloody brilliant.
  • F4G1TR0N - February 27, 2011 7:01 p.m.

To be honest, the hardest ones look to be the bouncer and Penetrator ones. I am not sure if I there is a place where you can shoot a canonball and hit em with it from 100 feet away
  • F4G1TR0N - February 27, 2011 6:33 p.m.

Yah man some of these look hard but I want my first platinum :D
  • 435 - February 24, 2011 8:58 p.m.

Beauty. Now to pull these fuckers off. Thanks, Charlie.
  • Hullonotna - February 24, 2011 1:34 a.m.

Some seem pretty simple, others seem overly complex. don't know if i'll get it yet. Might buy AC: brotherhood instead
  • Wing126 - February 24, 2011 7:07 a.m.

    Lotta penis jokes.......
  • BaraChat - February 24, 2011 5:02 a.m.

Looks like a combo list from a fighting game. Well it seems like the game has some depth.
