Bryan Cranston rumored for Star Trek 3 villain role

An early - and as yet unverified - report from Film Divider suggests that the evil shoes of Star Trek 3’s villain have been filled.

Breaking Bad alum Bryan Cranston has been linked to the space-set threequel, for a role that’s apparently "Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role." It certainly makes sense that he’d audition for a part that uses his very name as a descriptor.

Cranston previously tread the line between good and bad in the aforementioned AMC series as chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin, Walter White.

While his involvement in the third Trek instalment is far from guaranteed, his deadpan stylings would make him a brilliant match for the Enterprise crew.

Further intel in the report also hints at “three major new female characters” set to appear; perhaps with a bit more to do than the scantily-clad Carol Marcus from Star Trek Into Darkness?

That rumored trio includes the captain of another Federation ship, the President of the United Federation of Planets and Leonard “Bones” McCoy’s ex-wife.

Star Trek 3 will be directed by Justin Lin, based on a script co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8th 2016.
