BioWare open to Mass Effect 3 plot tweaks following script leak

BioWare is considering Mass Effect 3 script revisions following the leak of an undercooked build and plot details earlier this month. In a recent chat with Eurogamer, BioWare heads Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk said the studio has been following fan reaction to story spoilers since they appeared online, and is open to some late-game edits if they feel they're warranted.

"We listen to our fans all of the time," said Muzyka. "We listen to them on the forums, their feedback from stories. We're reading it all. If we can get ideas out of it that will make the game better, sure. We're not adverse to taking feedback. That's part of our core values, is humility. Any time we get a good idea from fans... they're our audience. They keep us in business."

Muzyka continued to say the leak was a blow to the Mass Effect 3 team, but emphasized the script is continually being worked on, adding, "It was disappointing for them, yeah. They're moving on. They're making a great game. The script, frankly, has changed a little bit from what was released, too. It's been edited. They're always tuning it. They're always making it better. But yeah, it's tough when you see your work displayed. You realize only a small number of people are probably going to look at those spoilers in advance.”

Of those spoilers, Muzyka added fans should not invest too much stock in what they've seen as the nature of the game means some of the dialogue or plot points could be taken out of context. And, if you are one of the ones who have seen a sneak peak of BioWare's next, try not to ruin the fun for everyone else. “Don't spoil the story,” he emphasized. “The fun of the story is uncovering things and exploring and finding new points to adventure in. I hope they don't lose that joy of discovery."

Mass Effect 3 is on track for release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on March 6, 2012 in North America, and March 9, 2012 in Europe.
