BioShock 2 pushes 360 ahead of Wii in February sales

Shares

Every console fanboy’s most favorite/dreaded time of the month has come again. The NPD sales chart is here and with it comes news of the frontline on the console war, at least for the US side. Though Nintendo DS seems cemented in the top spot, the number one home console in the second month of 2010 was the 360. The Wii was close behind it, with PS3 in trailing that by a small margin. Here are the actual numbers:

Nintendo DS - 613,200

Xbox 360 - 422,000

Wii - 397,900

PlayStation 3 - 360,100

PlayStation Portable - 133,400

PlayStation 2 - 101,900

While the sales difference between the PS3 and the 360 is a relatively small 60K+, it is a rare moment when a home console jumps ahead of the Wii. Perhaps it was the combined power of Mass Effect 2 and BioShock 2 that pushed it over the edge. The second trip to Rapture for the 360 debuted at #1, with New Mario Wii close behind. Another irregularity is that the PS3 version of Dante’s Inferno outsold the 360 one, which is basically the opposite of the rules of the universe. Check the stats below:

1.  BioShock 2 - Xbox 360 - Take-Two - 562,900

2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Wii - Nintendo - 555,600

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Xbox 360 - Activision - 314,300

4. Just Dance - Wii - Ubisoft - 275,400

5. Wii Sports Resort - Wii - Nintendo - 272,500

6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - PS3 - Activision - 252,800

7. Mass Effect 2 - 360 - EA - 246,500

8. Dante's Inferno (Divine Edition) - PS3 - EA - 242,500

9. Dante's Inferno - 360 - EA - 224,700

10. Heavy Rain - PS3 - Sony - 219,300

And one last thing: Just Dance outsold Mass Effect 2 and Heavy Rain? Seriously?!?
