Best of E3 06: Nintendo DS

Final Fantasy III

Publisher: Square Enix
Developer: Square Enix
Release Date: September 2006

Classic Final Fantasy games have kept our Game Boy Advances jumping for the past two years. Now, the series has traded up to the DS for its latest remake. Final Fantasy III, never before released in the US, packs impressive graphics and a pile of enhancements over the original Japan-only NES version.

It's not just the graphics, though; this is the title that first introduced the famed job system, which allows you to change your character's abilities on the fly as you play the game. For the DS version, new jobs are being added and the whole system is being retooled to be more balanced and fun. On top of that, the story is getting a kick in the pants to bring it up to today's standards. This will be one full little DS card, and one heck of an addictive RPG, judging from what we've seen so far.
