Batman rumoured to appear in Suicide Squad

Following the departure of Tom Hardy as Suicide Squad leader Rick Flag, the race is on to find his replacement. In the meantime, talk has now turned to the possibility of Batman sharing screentime with the ragtag bunch of comic book villains.

Forbes reports that the caped crusader’s appearance in the David Ayer-directed flick is “inevitable” and their sources indicate he’s expected to appear during “an in-story scene, likely at the end of the film and focused on certain circumstances involving the Joker.”

This corroborates earlier chatter that the Batman solo film - thought to land in a few years - will be based on Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns comic series.

If that’s the case, this cameo in Suicide Squad would line things up nicely for future scuffles between the two enemies. One issue of Miller’s run even features a story about the recently-escaped Joker who comes to blows with Batman.

The idea of the Joker centre stage once more squaring off against Bruce Wayne for a full-blown Batman spinoff pic is a tantalising prospect, indeed.

Suicide Squad is currently gearing up for production with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevigne, and Jared Leto set to star. It opens in cinemas on 5th August, 2016.
