Bandai Namco reveals Code Vein - or as I'm going to call it, "Anime Bloodborne"

Remember that mysterious "Prepare to Dine" trailer and all the theories I had about what it could be? Well, I was wrong about it being Bloodborne 2 or a collectible card game, but the actual product is just as eyebrow-raising. Say hello to Code Vein, an action-RPG set in a dystopian future where you play as vampires that wear gas masks. Also, everyone's an anime character.

Right on.

You'll play alongside an AI-controlled partner, fighting off monsters and using their absorbed blood to become stronger. Bandai Namco stresses that the game will be challenging, which makes sense given the "Prepare to Dine" message from the teaser that made us all (okay, me at least) think of Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

There's not much in the way of story or plot just yet, but it seems that the same calamity that ruined the planet and created the monsters you fight is also responsible for your powers. The official announcement also teases that players can "give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity."

Anime Bloodborne- er, sorry... Code Vein will come to PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
