Yesterday, it was announced that three
new Game of Thrones games
would be landing for consoles, computers
and (possibly) smartphones, with the largest of the proposed
adaptations being a Games of Thrones RPG for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Not one to keep fans guessing, Atlus has now revealed a few more
details surrounding the major release, and how it will make players
work hard for the Westeros crown.
Game of Thrones is being developed by
Cyanide Studio, who previously tinkered with author George R.R. Martin's
series in the recently released Game of Thrones: Genesis strategy
title for PC. Players will pick between two original characters, both
of whom will begin as soldiers of Robert's Rebellion and quickly assume
key roles in the war for Westeros domination. The game will take
players questing through a number of familiar environments including
King's Landing, the home of the Iron Throne; and the Wall, a desolate encampment where ex-criminals are
tasked with protecting the world from murderous nomads
and other horrors. According to Atlus, how one acts during their travels will have an effect on how these and other locations evolve.
Touching briefly on gameplay, Atlus said Game of Thrones would feature an “innovate 'active slowdown tactical combat engine'” that will give players the opportunity to slow down the action and strategize their next move.
Martin is reported to working closely with Cyanide Studio on the game's original story. No specific release date has been given, however Atlus is aiming for 'early 2012'. More information will be coming soon to the newly launched website.
