Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood shop quests guide

Romulus Lair Chest Locations

The Halls of Nero- Romulus Lair

When you reach the treasure room of the first lair, there will be chest strewn about that each contain a tomato. Really nice plunder form making your way to the treasure room, freakin tomatoes. You only need 6 of them, so enjoy the left overs. Make a BLT or something.

Thrown to the Wolves- Romulus Lair

In this Lair, after the horse chase with the priest, you will battle a gaggle of followers that appear. Take them and wolf heads down and in the same room that they attack will be a chest with a Terracotta pot. Also when you reach the treasure room at the end, grab a set of Buddhist Prayer Beads from a chest in there.

Leader of the pack – Romulus Lair

Once you make your way deep into the lair, you will encounter a follower who runs on the large room that you you will be told you need to escape from. In the corner of the room, there is a chest that will have a Papaver Silvaticum in it.

A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing- Romulus Lair

Once you get into the Lair a ways, you will start to chase the cardinal through the church and he will zip up a lift. Clever girl. In the next chamber is a chest on the ground that will have a Cardinal’s Purple Dye.

There is also a Pomander and Buddhist prayer beads in the chamber after the Treasure Room, once you make the big dive.

The Sixth Day- Romulus Lair

In this lair is one of the hardest to find items needed for a shop quest, the Shrunken Head. When you reach the final chamber with the large cross in the center, head over to it and make your way to the stairs on the right side. To the right of the stairs there will be a small hallway. Head down about half way to find a chest that has a head in it.

Assassination Missions:

Aside from chests, once you have your Assassin’s Guild up and running, you can also gain quest items from the Assassination missions that you send your crew out to complete. When you are looking at the mission descriptions, look for the jobs that have the starburst symbols instead of diamonds for the difficulty ratings. These will have items as well as cash for the completion of the mission.

Couriers, Pickpockets and Bandits:

Getting quest items from these guys can be very lucrative. The items you get are random but the payoff is that you will always get something. Of course, whether you need it or not is another story. Pickpockets can be found from the red money bag on your map and after a short chase, you can get items as well as some money from them. The red-caped couriers can be found around the cities but will have no visual marker on the map indicating where they are. You’ll need to keep your eyes open for them walking around and a white arrow above their heads. They will almost always have a better payout then the pickpockets and are worth watching for.

The best way to get random quest items is from the gangs of bandits that attack you. Sometimes the bandits will just appear out of the blue and start to attack after some trash talking. You can usually find them in the South East Antico District at night in the countryside. If you want to be a sneaky Pete, you can also keep playing through Memory Sequence Three: Section 3- the mission where you need to pay the bandits 2500 fl. for the return of the courtesan on the boat. Kill the bandits on the boat, loot the bodies and check your haul. If you don’t get what you want, reload it and do it again. If you do get what you want, make sure to finish the mission or else you won’t keep what you found.

I didn't find an edit function, so I'll make an addition instead... I wrote (in my comment prior to this): "I've just made the mistake of selling all the quest items required to unlock 'Captain's Sword' (or 'Faith')." I meant to say: I've just made the mistake of selling all the quest items required to unlock 'Captain's Sword' (or 'Faith') to a Blacksmith located far from the Hideout and who has no diamond shape around his shop icon, and the sword did obviously not get unlocked.

I wish I'd been aware of this website, and of this particular guide, because I've just made the mistake of selling all the quest items required to unlock 'Captain's Sword' (or 'Faith'). The first line you write says: "Near your hideout there will be store markers that have a diamond around their symbol". Somehow I have completely overlooked this (having hurried somewhat due to time issues), so I am very happy that I came upon this article. I love your thoroughness and that you're willing to make use of several techniques (text, photos, lists, highlights, references, i.e.), not to mention the viewer friendly design of the website in general. Thanks a lot for it all.

Another great way to collect items from thiefs is within the side mission: A Blanket Finish. Once they find you they will run off to another location in the Anticio district, once there thiefs will keep appearing if you stay in the area. If you are able to hold on long enough they will stop coming an there will be tons of bodies to loot for items. Hopefully this helps as well.

I went all throughout the Antico district and still couldn't find the shrunken head, I did get the one from the Romulus lair though. Are you sure it wasn't in centro or campanga district?
  • tedkata543 - November 1, 2011 1:12 a.m.

Im not sure about the district but it is on a side of a cliff :D
  • hullonotna - July 5, 2011 1:12 a.m.

I sold so many items before finding out about these quests. I am pretty sure you can get shrunken heads from investing in stores.

Man I didn't know these items were of importance.. I had a ton of them from chests and missions and sold them to 1 shop thinking they were just for that extra bit of cash. *slaps self in face* Am I good to collect them all again without restarting or are there unique items which an only be collected once? thanks!
  • gamefreakl1996 - January 23, 2011 9:41 p.m.

oh crap -.- I accidently sold a few Indian diamonds not knowing I would need them, I think I need like two more? Those adn the shruken heads will piss me off so much
  • Samurainova - January 13, 2011 4:35 a.m.

Question answered (though not here)! There are only two in the game and if like me you sold one you will have to re-play the game to unlock the armor. Sorry for the bad news but hey that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Personally I'm going to live without the armor as I'm linked to Legacy which I have no desire to re-play.
  • Samurainova - January 12, 2011 1:20 a.m.

Please someone answer our questions! Many of us are asking about the shrunken heads and their availability. None are getting any answers. Are they only available from the two chests? Are they recoverable from previous memories or will we have to get them on a second playthrough?
  • bigaarron1 - January 9, 2011 10:40 a.m.

is it possible to go back into a memory to regain the shrunken heads? i found them before that particular shop quest became available and dont fancy going through the game from the start just to get them
  • Ribbalicious - January 7, 2011 4:13 p.m.

No matter how long i spend looking for borgia messengers i can't fine any Aconite and i've only found one Shrunken Head and i've opened all the chests. WHAT CAN I DO?????????????????????
  • snowwolfnh63 - January 5, 2011 1:21 p.m.

Just an update if anyone is still hunting for the Borgia Messengers, I read that they mostly pop up in certain areas, same as the Bandits, well I am here to report both will appear dang near anywhere! Keep your eyes open though for those Borgia dudes, sometimes they appear quick! As for Bandits, I read they are mostly in the Southern districts. I have got jumped more than a few times within the city limits, near guards so be prepared just about anywhere to have them appear.

Is it possible to get the shrunken heads from anything other than the two chests? I sold one by accident while heavily inebriated on Christmas day and would hate to have to 100% my second play through.
  • Gilgamesh567 - December 30, 2010 10:34 a.m.

I found Aconite on my First borgia Interception lol
  • snowwolfnh63 - December 1, 2010 9:59 p.m.

My biggest issue was finding Aconite. I had finished the game once and still hadn't found any! Of course I didn't know I was supposed to hold other Items for Shop Quests. So started a new game and went through it again ... still none ... sighs ... BUT I did some poking around on the net and found out the only place to get it is from couriers, needless to say I went on a courier hunt and lo and behold got two couriers in a row holding this. It took a while to find them and since I have the cape where my notoriety doesn't change I just blasted them instead of trying to tackle them ... evil chuckle ;)

@JenosIdanian you are quite welcome :)
  • JenosIdanian - November 30, 2010 1:21 p.m.

Man, the Shrunken Heads are killing me. Now I know where the find them. Thanks Jeff.
  • animeman - November 30, 2010 2:45 a.m.

Finally some way to find out how to get this stuff.
